I'd upgrade Zeller and ET with players the C's have coming off the bench as it is. Don't think Green adds any more to the starting lineup than IT would.

And I don't want Sully back on the team next year--let alone starting.

I think Sullinger is very likely to be back, if only because his trade value heading into this summer is unlikely to be very high.

You're probably right.

First - TP on some good ideas. My biggest question is whether D. Green is a product of an excellent SA system - or whether he is really so good. Look: if you're picking your poison, I'd rather help off of Danny Green than Leonard or Duncan. ...but, I mean, clearly - he has an excellent shooting percentage, and no matter how good your team-mates, you still need to make the shots.

I am not sure those guys are stars, however. So - following your idea through to its conclusion, and assuming we now have SG, PG (M. Smart) and C (Ajinca) locked up - who would you have start at SF and PF?

I do not like Olynyk in that line-up; Turner is too small; JJ is not a starter; and Bass and Sullinger just are not good enough at their positions to make that line-up successful. We'd need two stars - or one all-star game starter and a quality player - to make that rotation work; and both pieces would have to be good shooters (with Ajinca on the floor).

So - mean Joe Green - who fills those roles?

I agree with all the posters saying Danny Green is great in part because of the system he has around him, but I think we have the next best thing with Stevens' system. It is making guys like Turner, Zeller, Crowder and Jerebko look better than ever. Just imagine what he could do with a guys who has size, high BBall IQ and amazing shooting skills.

As for filling our forward positions, I think we have a pair of promissing guys at 5 with Sully (an amazing rebounder who people are ready to throw in the bin) and KO - one of the smartest PF since McHale.

That being said - with 8 1st round picks in the next 4 drafts, I think Danny will make a trade for Cousins, Love, KD or some other transcendent talent who will take us to true contender status.

Again - the beauty of Ajinca/Green is that we can pry them away from teams defending their other talent without giving up any assets.

Well, here we disagree. We would need to dramatically improve the SF and PF positions if we were to spend on those players. They are clearly not good enough to carry a team with the players we have. What about Tobias Harris (max deal) and an S&T with DET - Celtics 2016 draft pick, Sullinger (Wallace to make salaries match?).

So you'd have:

Ajinca
Monroe
Harris
D. Green
Smart.

That seems like a second round team.

Here's my sneaky plan to upgrade the roster. First, have to bring back the current C's who are over-achieving in CBS' system.  Crowder, Jerebko, Zeller and Bass.

Then I'd look to upgrade the wing with a veteran who can mentor a little and also score the ball.  Has to be a good 3pt shooter, and someone who might take a liking the Celtic tradition and choose a modest deal here over potentially more elsewhere.

Ya know would fit that bill and be a sneaky good get for us?    Paul Pierce

what, in the context of this thread, does the word "sneaky" mean? most of what i have seen is fairl obvious since there are limited scenarios available to any team.  ???
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I was actually looking at him as well. Harder to gauge a player on a trainwreck like the Knicks but he is a very solid bench guy for sure. I think Ajinca with his 7"2 height and 7"6 wingspan has more of an impact on defense though.
