Stevens does seem to be putting it all together as an NBA coach. The next big test is what he'll do with more talent and more options next year. Will the "everybody plays" constant line up tinkering return? Is the success going small this year going to make Stevens think that's always the way to go?
Mike
I think it's less tinkering now and more tactical than it was at the beginning of the year.
Pressey plays when we need better pace or when the opponent has a 'lightning bug' pg
Olynyk stretches immobile bigs
Crowder is playing a lot because he's so good switching 3/4/5
Any 2 of Smart, Bradley, Crowder can be used to hide IT, Young, or Pressey on D
Jerebko, Datome are energy guys whose shooting can buy them minutes
Turner can play 1-3, relieve ball handling pressure for Smart. Stevens prefers Turner against certain matchups.
And so on. The team is practically impossible to gameplan for, outside of IT. Even within a given lineup, Smart, Bradley and Turner will swap defensive assignments as a matter of convenience.
Out-of-town announcers can't even quantify how and why the Celtics are winning. I think it's funny. Grizzlies announcers chalked it up to a lack of effort from Memphis. Miami announcers said it was poor decision making by Miami. Or, "you just can't let a bad team hang around and gain confidence". Yeah right. I hope teams continue to underestimate us.
