It sounds like sixers were attempting to trade embiid and others pre trade deadline for top picks in lottery. Already giving up on him or they view this draft with better players? Maybe Pitino is their secret advisor.

That can't be true.  To even think about trading Embiid right after bailing on MCW is to publicly admit you have no idea what you are doing.

Its a garbage Forbes article.  It even brings up the bogus claim that Embiid's weight ballooned to 300lbs.  Here's a couple recent articles on Embiid that actually quote Hinkie and Brown.

Honestly, what else are Hinkie and Brown going to say about the #3 overall pick whom they selected knowing he would miss a season?  That he stinks?  That he's not a hard-worker?  If they're asked Embiid questions, or even if they're not, they have no reason to say anything but positive things, either for selling him to the fan base or other GMs.  And considering he hasn't had the opportunity to fail yet, they aren't lying.

There is positive and then there is POSITIVE.  I don't think Brown makes the following quote if he isn't sold on Embiid's potential.

"I think his upside is imminence. There's a competitive, dirty side of him that I've fallen in love with.

"He's aggressive. He hates to lose. All that wrapped up in a seven-foot, plus body that is extremely mobile. The future for him can be as bright as he wants it to be or that his health will allow it and we're extremely excited."

Classic over the hill moron lamenting the decline of the mid range jump shot and grown men wearing short shorts.

I like this post.

From what I understand, he's a better prospect than anyone in the upcoming draft.  A lot of experts felt he should have gone #1 regardless of his injury.  He has all-world potential.

Gerald Green had all-world potential, but I agree.

This would entirely depend on what Embiid's actual health/conditioning situation is so I don't feel that I have the information/expertise I need to decide.

Hinkie will dump Embiid in a second if he thinks Embiid isn't a franchise player. In that light, you would have to treat any offer from the Sixers to trade him straight up for a single pick with a great deal of suspicion.

Next year we will find out how Embiid looks on court and have a better idea of his long-term medical prognosis given his two stress injuries so far. Embiid may have "all-world potential" or even all-time-potential potential, but he was a high-risk pick last year, very raw, and may well bust. High-risk picks may yield high rewards, but they also have even higher risk of low rewards.

The Forbes article also implied that the owner has the ability to continue to underwrite Hinkie's plan to churn the roster as long as it takes to come up with the next LeBron-MJ-Bird-Magic-Russell. Owners of sports franchises make their real money on long-term franchise appreciation as opposed to operating profit. The owner of the Sixers has made a killing already, as has all the other owners except Ballmer.

I know this was brought up about Noel as well.

For Noel I wouldn't do it, but for Embiid I would think long and hard he could end up being a legit center in the league.

Then again, he could also become a bust with his injury history.

Thoughts?

And would Philly even consider such a thing?

I would for either Noel or Embid.

I would...though it's a big risk.

I look at Embiid as an extremely high risk prospect, and not only because of his injury history.  He's a guy who has all the physical gifts to be an elite big, but from what I've seen his basketball IQ is...lets be polite and say 'unspectacular'.

I could see Embiid becoming an elite center in a few years, but I could also see him following the fate of Andrew Bynum - a guy who (injuries aside) followed every mind-blowing good play with an equivalently head-scratching bonehead play.  Low BBIQ, questionable personality, very raw...

Then you throw the injury history in there ON TOP of all that and you're and things look pretty bad.

Honestly, between his heatlh concerns and his BBIQ issues I feel like there is about a 60%-65% chance that Embiid becomes a bust and the next big draft disappointment (following in the shows of Darko and / or Oden).  That leaves me with about 35% confidence that he will become a very good (all-star or near all-star) starter.

Thing is, his upside is so high that if he DOES pan out positively, he could become absolutely dominant - I'm talking Demarcus Cousins / Anthony Davis good.  Even though I feel the chance of that is pretty slim, big men of that calibre are so dominant that I think I'd take the gamble.

But this is assuming our own pick is outside of the top 5, because if we got a top 5 pick I'd probably say no.

We might have no choice.  If we keep winning these silly basketball games, we'll be sitting pretty at 9, 10, 11 in a top heavy draft.

Still say Danny completely screwed up his tank by hiring the best young basketball coach in the world.

Philly would not so it is moot, what do you think the is NBA2K?   This idea is patently ridiculous.

Chad Ford said they were considering trading Embiid and would do so for a top 5 pick, so sit on it and rotate!

James (Miami) - Do you think Philadephia was actually considering to trade Embiid? What does this mean if it is true?

Chad Ford - I think it's been proven that Philly will consider anything. So yes I believe. I reported a little over a month ago that they weren't sold on either Carter-Williams or Embiid. That's now clearly proven to be the case on Carter-Williams given what they got in return. I believe the reason Joel Embiid is still there is because they weren't able to get what they were looking for in return -- another Top 5 pick in this year's draft.

I can't wait to see him after a few years under his belt and a halfway competent team.
