Ok, I'm not saying this is probable but what do you think of this plan:

1. Cousins, dradgic, IT, Jackson, exc. There are a lot of guys to be had. Get 1.

2. TPE for KG.

That gives you enough to make the playoffs. We'd have a punchers chance to get to the 2nd round. We'd have a lot of options going into the off-season.

Off-season:
3. Add more talent. Lots of options.

4. Get pierce back.

Basically, we could get KG and PP back if we want them while maintaining flexibility. We need to wait for a superstar to hit the trade market. But we don't have to suck while we wait.

Hypothetically we could have this going into next year:
KG/Zeller/KO
Monroe/sully
PP/crowder
Smart/Bradley
Jackson/Turner

Or

Hibert/Zeller/koh
KG/sully
PP/Crowder
Smart/AB
Dragic/Turner

We'd still have tons of picks and flexibility.

Sounds crazy

And I don't think we would be contenders but just a playoff team

No shortcuts to rebuilding

Rebuilding through the draft gives us a greater title window

We saw that when we only had 4 years of possible championships with KG, pierce, Allen and rondo

The point about KG and the truth not being here now is that the rebuild includes younger longer term players. If KG or PP play a part in the future it will be after their playing days are over (so not that far away) in a mentoring role.

The trick for DA? Finding players who can contribute at a similar level.

That said, would love to have either back for a push to the POs.

If you can bring kG and Pierce back without giving up any trade assets, then you do it. Those guys lead by example on and off the court. Having two savvy veteran leaders around a young talented team would bring us back to relevance while we are rebuilding at the same time.

This is one trade or directional idea that I actually like. TP

I'd rather bring Pierce and KG back as coaches.  I don't think they would add much for very long on the court.

what is the point in only moderating improving the team through guys near retirement?
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Threads with the word realistic are usually not, that is the case here.

I think you have no concept on what realistic means.  I think our chances to get Cousins are beyond slim.

How is it not realistic. All I said for the deadline was get one asset and bring back KG. We got an asset and KG was traded for scrap. So I'd say it was actually a very realistic option.

haha.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I don't think they read your post correctly. They probably thought you meant to get Dragic and Cousins and those other players and not just one of them.
