Why do people like Faried so much?

They don't watch him play every night.

This is Lawson and Faried, not Stockton and Malone.

Because he has a reputation of a shot blocker and everyone loves "rim protectors" (I am so sick of that term).
Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.

I think it's much more because he's an elite offensive rebounder, which was a skill that our team completely lacked for several years, including finishing dead last in it the season before Faried was drafted by the Nuggets and his first two seasons in the league.  Last year we were 8th in offensive rebounding percentage, and this year 18th, so it shouldn't be as much of a concern, but people are still licking old wounds.  Aside from being a great offensive rebounder, Faried doesnt bring much else exceptional to the table, so I've moved on myself.  But he was the player I most wanted from his draft (of players likely to go in the 20s,) so I know it took awhile for my own rebounding trauma to heal.

Because you win championships with a guy like Faried. A dirt dog, huge motor, with talent. And you don't win championships without.

Yeah I wasn't asking a rhetorical question.  Bill Simmons seems to love Faried.  He's always talking about how much he wants Boston to get him.  I don't watch him play much... I didn't understand the fascination.   I just saw him as a mediocre undersized (6'8 225 pound) big that can get you 10 points and 8 rebounds.  I mean, Simmons talks about him like he's an upgrade over Sullinger.  I don't get it.

I thought you don't win championships without players like Lebron?

If you think back to our run, Posey and even PJ Brown played a big role in crunch time. You don't win without guys that can do intangibles and step up when it matters most. People will argue about Nate Rob b/c he's so dysregulated, but he performed in the crunch for us more times than not, too.

The problem I see is that everyone is getting max or near max contracts right now... b/c we expect the cap to rise in the future..? If Bledsoe and Dragic are worth max money, we're in a strange league right now. But regardless, for what Faried could be had (if you're even a near contender, which we obviously aren't, but whatever), I think he'd be very well worth it.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Why do people like Faried so much?

I have no idea either.
He's got a great attitude but he's not excellent at anything- gets a higher than average amount of offensive rebounds but he's a tweener that gets dominated in the post.

Very overrated IMO.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Hmmm, I don't know, maybe because he's a great player.

I know he's no Kelly Olynyk or Tyler Zeller (sarcasm involved), but he is a very good player.

Faried is everything we loved about Leon Powe but way more of it.

And he actually has two healthy knees. I'd rather have him to start at PF in the observable future than Sullinger.

Faried is an interesting player.  He does so many good things, but spacing the floor and protecting the rim are not among those things.

Really a test case for how the league values PFs these days.
