Nobody is gifting play time. Young gets his fair chance to prove himself. Once we establish that he can`t play and still gets time on the court then we can discuss about gifts again

obviously i did not mean pre season -i'm talking regular season,he should be honing his skill in maine-not sitting the bench and traveling--young can be very good but playing a few minutes here and there  during regular season at his age and experience will only slow his progress down-maybe suit up for home games---

are you saying that you believe that young will NOT be honing his skills in maine? i am not sure what the concern is here exactly.

as far as i can tell, so far young has been injured and thus not playing. when the regular season comes he will most likely be in maine. the celtics have a history of putting some of their  younger guys there to develop, as far as i know.

if this thread is to start a debate on the value of maine for young, that would be a good topic. which skills does young need to develop most? that sort of discussion.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

This is why the NBA and the players union have really missed the mark and the ones that suffer are people like Young. The one and done phenomenon only works for a select few. Young is on the border. He will be good in a year our two; but what does he do now. He will learn all of the bad habits that you can pick up on the road and get few of the benifits of playing time in the NBA. Riding pine in the NBA is a kind of purgatory. Given where the Celtics are, Stevens would be doing us all a disservice if he did not play Young. The problem is who sits while be plays. Given Young's proven immaturity he will probably be sent to Maine; but the D league has a long way to go before it can be a legitimate alternative to College Basketball.

Except that he'll actually be being paid to play.

To get minutes, a player basically needs to beat out the one ahead of him/her.

It's frustrating watching an inconsistent rookie play while a journeyman pro sits, but there is little reason for a rookie to sit while a minimum contract fringe NBA player who is a touch more "complete" or experienced, and consequently perhaps a bit "better."

I mean, Rondo had to beat out Telfair and West to get PG minutes.  Thankfully, he did.

I think if healthy he's good enough to contribute already and he'll probably learn faster practicing and playing with real NBA players. This setback with his hammy may just rob him of too much preseason and early season time, however, so he might end up stuck in Maine for a period that he otherwise wouldn't have had to be there.

I really don't know how many times I have to say this. Players earn playing time in PRACTICE. Players develop their skills in PRACTICE. Players learn the system in PRACTICE.

James Young will have to prove to Stevens and Ainge that he deserves getting playing time first before getting playing time in games. It is not incumbent upon Stevens to play anyone that is young and inexperienced in games simply to prove to the fans of the team that they should or should not be playing.

My guess is during road trips, Young will probably be playing in Maine to stay in game shape and develop his skills and when the C's are home he will be called up to the Celtics and practice with the big boys. Then, if there are injuries or he shows he deserves time, then he will start to get playing time.

And that's the way it should be.

Had he not injured himself, I believe that he was on track to have proven he belonged before the season started. Now, you may be right.
