This isn't rocket science. Rondo is a winner. He wants to win. He also knows there's not much longer where he can win while also being a big contributor in winning. He just experienced a major injury and is at the apex of his career right now at 28 years of age. 
He's not going to demand anything this season. If Boston can make some big splashes and become a contender, he stays. If Boston can't, and/or trades him midseason, next summer the Knicks, who have shown great interest in Rondo already, have Melo, cap space, plenty of nationally televised games, and a big fashion industry.
