I think Sanders is a gamble, especially with 4 year deal. But if we don't buy into that, why not get Magee with Wallace and a pick?  He only has the same two years as Wallace on a contract so there is little to lose IMO.  We already had a thread on this, but it's less of a gamble for similar attributes

Where Sanders is a knucklehead off the court. McGee is a knucklehead on the court.

Rather roll with FAV and Iverson this season, and see if we can land something in the draft of FA next summer.

He's been in one bar fight and smoked some weed.

Just a bit of a hothead with a hazy past time.

and vin baker just liked to enjoy a drink or two before practice.  So what??  Its not like we got burned on that gamble.

The guy to gamble on right now is Hibbert. He had a tough year reportedly due to distractions for personal issues with his girlfriend, but he's a legit big man who is a defensive presence and a scoring threat in the post, enough to lead his team to within a game of beating the Heat to reach the finals two years ago, and his stock is really low right now. He's much bigger than Sanders, and has much fewer issues to worry about. There are rumors that Bird wants Rondo and would trade Hibbert for him. I would do that in a heartbeat and rebuild with Hibbert, KO/Sullinger/Green/Bradley, Smart.

I agree with this, I think pairing Hibbert with his old college teammate Green might reenergize him, and if some of the rumors are true he needs to get out of Indy ASAP.  The only issue I see with this is that I do not see that team advancing far and kind of puts them in NBA purgatory as Felger says.  The cost of acquiring Hibbert in your scenario is a lot more then acquiring Sanders reportedly is.

2019 historical draft.  Pick 12

Tim Duncan, Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor, Scottie Pippen, Willis Reed, Mitch Richmond, Sam Jones, Dan Majerle, Bob Cousy, Rasheed Wallace, Shawn Kemp, Marcus Camby

There is a huge difference between where Sanders is and where Vin Baker was.  Sanders is a guy in his young 20s in a boring town, whereas Vin Baker was a complete alcoholic.  I don't really want Sanders on my team, but those two aren't really comparable situations.  Alcoholism is way different than drinking on the weekends, teetotaling isn't a reason to not go after an undervalued asset

Someone that needs to go to rehab has more of a problem then just 'drinking on the weekends.'

Sanders is entering rehab this summer, with 4 years left on a big contract.  Baker was a recovering alcoholic on a huge contract, with I believe 4 years left when we landed him.  Theyre more similar than you think, and while you can nitpick on the differences, the consequences will definitely be the same, and if you followed the team back then you know how bad that contract was for us.

He also didnt just get into a bar fight.  He picked a fight with a happy, celebrating group of people because they accidentally sprayed him when opening a champagne bottle.  During that fight he was throwing beer bottles at people.  The guy has problems.

Give him another chance. He needs another chance and we need someone like him. His value is extremely low but his upside is close to a #1 lottery pick steal. Throw in jeff Green and we got ourselves a deal.

draftsmart33, ask and ye shall receive. it seems it is more than a chance drink or two that bedevils sanders. as with everyone, he has his own demons to battle. and while i wish him luck, it means quite the gamble for the celtics to take him on.

he might recover. he might be vin baker the second.

"Staying out of trouble is tough for Sanders. From missing six weeks after injuring his thumb in a November bar fight at a Milwaukee club called Apartment 720 — why he wasn’t jailed for throwing beer bottles into the crowd is beyond me — to arguing with his teammates and coach, to getting cited twice on animal cruelty charges, to being lazy, he often seems so flighty and anger-ridden that his career is likely hanging by a thread."

"Sanders, now in his third year from Virginia Commonwealth, is second in the NBA with 2.8 blocks per game and tied for the league lead with 14 technical fouls. He's been fined $50,000 for criticizing the officials. He's sarcastically flashed thumbs up to the referees after being ejected. He's been sent home by his (former) coach for a "team conduct issue." And he's absolutely lost it during an extended jawing match with the Pacers that got him tossed from a game last April. "

And a mind changed just like that....

The thing with the dogs bothered me, so I looked in to it. He left his dogs outside in very cold conditions. Its hard to tell exactly what happened. But it was not good for the dogs and they possibly could have died because they were puppies .
