One thing about Payne is he has small hips and weak legs. If he was more of a banger we could use him, but he's not.

I'd go with Warren or Young, but it's likely that at least one of them will be gone by then (probably Warren).  With that in mind, perhaps PJ Hairston.  He wouldn't even be in the draft if we had signed him to our d-league team during the year.  Why didn't Ainge do that?  We could have gotten a top college player without having to relinquish a draft pick or anyone on our team.  He would have been cheap.  Sigh.

On Saric... I wonder if the C's will trade for an extra pick. If he dropped all the way into the 20s because of the contract, they could easily trade a future pick for him and he'd arrive the same time as the pick anyway.

On Saric, I wonder if this is all just a smokescreen to try to push his way to the team he wants.  The reports are that he agreed in principle to a contract for three years, not that he signed a contract for three years.

Really, the timing is questionable.  Why just a couple days before the draft sign a deal to play in Turkey, and for three years?  I'm not completely buying it.

lol. But hip size is important in evaluating prospects, especially bigger players. Hips are Sully's biggest weapon. And the difference between a string bean prospect with bigger hips vs small weak hips can be pretty big.

If Payne had a stronger lower body, he'd be much higher in the mocks, and would compare much better to Vonleh.

If you guys are looking for deeper draft analysis, my preferred source is deanondraft.com. He isn't afraid to go against the groupthink, and frankly, there's a lot of groupthink. For example, he makes a compelling argument that Andrew Wiggins is badly overrated.

Guys he likes that might be available at #17 include Tyler Ennis, KJ McDaniels, Clint Capela and Jusuf Nurkic, as well as Kyle Anderson and Elfrid Payton. He dislikes Randle, McDermott, and Levine.

I just checked out this website.  He has Smart ahead of Parker and Wiggins and Nurkic ahead of Wiggins.  He has McDermott as the 34th best player.  I guess he doesn't believe in group think.

I've searched, but I haven't been able to find any mention of Young working out in Waltham. I find that very odd.

I think we can't lose at 17. So many intriguing players could be there.

I like:

TJ Warren
Kyle Anderson
PJ Hairston

and whomever else may fall (Saric, Levine, Young, Hood, McDermott, etc). I might even try to trade down a few spots and pick up a 2nd rounder in the process.

Adding someone from above PLUS one of Dinwiddie, Antetokounmpo, Tavares, Patrick Young, Nick Johnson or Dwight Powell would be HUGE!!!

Warren is already a good shooter despite the continuous cut and paste scouting report posts here about what a terrible shooter he is. He has deep NBA range now.

He shoots 26.7% from deep. So ... no, he does not have "deep NBA range". He can't even knock down 3s at the college level at a rate that is anything but abysmal. He's also a bad free throw shooter. And a bad passer. (On the other hand, he is good rebounder and defender).

Quote
He can score with anybody and people who says he un-athletic or can't shoot have simply not seen him play.

Or, you know, we are looking at his numbers and seeing they are terrible. It doesn't matter how pretty he looked one time you saw him in person if over the course of a season his percentages regress to 26.7%.

He's a bad shooter. Get over it.
Nice. Look up a few stats and then act like you have a clue. Uh, more like 25 times in person. Of course your count would be zero.

I guess Roy Wiliams, Pitino, Billy Donovan, Bill Self, Boeheim, Coach K, Calapari, Danny Ainge, Tony Bennett, Fred Hoiberg and Jim Calhoun were all at those same games because they just enjoy visiting northern and central New England in the winter?

David West likes TJ Warren's shot and some guy posting on Celtics Blog does not. Wow, I am so confused. Who's opinion should I believe.......the former NBA all star who actually trains with TJ Warren or some internet blogger who does not take time to even go to a game? I think I am "over it now".
