Does Draft Express do their mock drafts based on who they think teams will take or who they think teams should take?

The mocks are based on who they think teams will take. Their big board is different than their mocks:

Think if Magic really want Smart over Exum (or Parker, Wiggins, Embiid) than they'll try to swap the pick for either Jazz's two picks (5 and 23) or Celtics (6 and 17). Doesn't make sense for them to draft him there and not try to trade down first.

They might try, but it's possible (or even likely) that the Celtics and Jazz don't see a major talent drop-off between Exum, Smart, Vonleh, and Gordon/Randle (or at least not enough one to justify such a trade). In other words, the Magic will have to take the player they think is the best unless either Boston or Utah strongly believes that player to be much, much better than the remaining players. There's no reason to think that Orlando is the only team that rates Smart and Exum similarly.

The Magic could call Danny and say "we're leaning Exum but willing to move the pick" and Danny could say: "Go right ahead. We're perfectly happy with either Smart or Gordon (etc.)." Even if Danny thinks Exum is on another level he might be willing to call Orlando's bluff, especially if he thinks the Jazz are locked in on Vonleh or Randle.

My thinking is that if Orlando still views Smart as their top choice like they did last year and the Cavs pass on Embiid then it all falls on Philly. If Philly selects one then there is a good chance the other falls. I do believe for what it's worth that Cleveland will pass of Embiid and grab Wiggins. Parker goes to Milwaukee at 2 because they do have Sanders and could use a scorer. Celtics could very realistically end up with Exum or Embiid.

Love your optimisim but think you are delusional.  No way Embiid slips that far.  He will certainly be taken by one of the top 3, and probably 1 by Cleveland.  If we could put any package together to get him, I would do it.  I would give up every single asset to end up with him as our starting center.  He is going to be the next big star in the NBA. Lebron. Durant. Embiid.

Well Noel was by far the #1 player in last years draft going in. Not even close. The issue is that he suffered an injury during the season and his stock fell. Although it wasn't nearly as serious same happened to Embiid. If you have been a long suffering franchise can you afford to gamble on Embiid? If he doesn't go to Cleveland the Bucks probably pass on him for the still available Parker/Wiggins. Philly? Nope they have Noel and might trade back or could favor someone like Exum. Orlando takes Smart because that is still the #1 player on their board. Jazz would stick to the script and draft Vonleh or perhaps switch spots with Boston. But that is the scenario on how he could get to Boston. Pretty much Philly and Orlando would have to take someone that was unexpected.

Same thing I said, if he does select for us, I bet it will be someone we hear little talk about. That's why my binky AG won't be picked, I wish he was less known LOL.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

I have a hunch he trades down and drafts Porzingis.
