I think that watching Phil Jackson and Jim Dolan fight it out over every decision would be awesome - I'm all for it.

Didn't know there was a thread on it already. Sorry mods. Gotta spend more time on CB. I've been neglectful.

How long until Phil starts making passive-aggressive jabs at ownership in interviews?  I predict right around his first trade deadline.

NBATV is reporting this is a done deal.

Obvious desperation attempt to keep Melo from signing elsewhere this summer.  Here's hoping it doesn't work... I'd love to see Phil fail.  He's never built a team.  Unless there's already two of the greatest players ever there that he can ride to a championship, I don't see him being successful.    Melo isn't enough.  He'll need LeBron + another TOp 50 player ever.   Jordan/Pippen or Shaq/Kobe and you can get 11 rings... Melo + garbage?... no chance.

Simmons covers a lot of this in his mailbag:  http://grantland.com/the-triangle/nba-bag-the-phil-jackson-to-the-knicks-theory/

I can see Phil Jackson being a terrible GM.  Here's hoping Ainge takes advantage of him.

I’d break down the motivation percentages like this: 50 percent shameless money grab/irresistible Godfather offer; 20 percent competitiveness/legacy grab; 20 percent affection for/appreciation of the Knicks brand; 10 percent missing the limelight/being relevant again. Personally, I am 17 times more than dubious that a 68-year-old guy with no front-office experience whatsoever can save the Knicks from 3,000 miles away … while working for James Dolan, no less. Sounds like a recipe for disaster even if you’re the Zen Master. We will see.

I just don't see this working out for the nix.

their only fix is to start from scratch, acquire some picks & young talent and go from there. but NY will not have the patience to do so.

so they'll keep doing what they've been doing. phil or no phil.

someone from espn said, that if Phil Jackson can turnaround the mess in New York and can get them a title in a few years, he should be in charge in running the world

Still can't believe he is being paid 12 million a year to be president of a team.

Seems to me,  Knicks organization ....simply trying to BUY back their respect .......to buy a Winning Image or Reputation ...to hide there incompetence and kept Melo there too.

His hiring is nothing but paying for Phil Jackson's reputation as winner to be associated with the Knicks.

It's a public image ploy to make the Knicks fans THINK the team is heading in the the right direction

I don't think there is any meat and potatoes to his hiring ...... What is he really going to do ? Fly all over the country scouting....or world .....?   He is all crippled up and looks half dead .

He can't coach in that shape....I bet it's a struggle for him to visit a practice.

No substance to this hiring at all......just PR to try and fix the Knicks deflated image and make fans think they are now winners ...because Jackson is associated with them

I don't see his hiring amount to a hill of beans

i dont doubt that jackson will be a good GM. he knows basketball and is very smart.

the trouble is the team he is taking over has little talent and virtually no draft picks coupled with a truly problematic salary situation.

he does not have the tools to rebuild unless the knicks owner transforms into someone akin to the nets owner and money means nothing. but i dont see that happening.

for me personally, i am glad that phil will in all likelihood fail since i dont like the knicks and i dont like him.  :)

the knicks do seem to be beyond redemption for at least another 3-5 years. so let's see what magical phil has up his sleeve. it should be interesting and he may not even stay long in NY.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.
