He has been called A poor man, smaller version of russell westbrook.

Only 6'0 tall, but also like westbrook ultra quick, athletic and fearless. But also like westbrook can be a major hog. The bottom line is, he is a winner though.

He makes winning plays on both ends especially in crunch time situations.

The question is, due to his lack of size and pg skills , what position he would play at the next level.

I think we could still use him for our team next year. As a 6th man, backup pg(he will have to learn).  Should b avail late 1st, early second

Yes or no?

No.

I certainly wouldn't spend a first round pick on him.

too much talent in this draft to take a flier on him, maybe with a 2nd round pick.  Great college player though...

This year so far his stats are all up, especially fg at 45 from 41 last yr and assist at 4.5 from 2 last year.

He could be a late bloomer in learning the pg position. But again his will to win and physical tools are impressive imo

Siva is gone so his numbers are bound to go up.

He's a shaky shooter. A small SG who can't shoot doesn't scream NBA player to me.

What about westbrook before he got drafted. He had a shaky jump shot and was not a pure pg. Still isnt today.

Smith for his inability to shoot it at a more consistent basis, sure can drive in at will to try to score. Also absolute blurr in transition. He could prob get u 8 pts in transition if he does nothing else much in a game

to me he projects as an energy 1/2 off the bench not worth a 1st round pick but could be a great value in the 2nd

To properly be a smaller version of Russell Westbrook, he should change his name to Russ West.

Westbrook and Smith might have similar aggressive styles, but Westbrooks overall size and talent eclipse him by a wide margin.

Being a shrimpy PG instead of a big PG is a huge difference. Look at Ty Lawson's game for succeeded as a short PG in the NBA, not westbrook.

I do get what you mean. Thats why smith will likely go late 1st and not top 5 like RW.

Still he brings to table qualities our team lacks now. If our pick is late 1st or 2nd to burn, id really think about getting him

I say NO.

Too wild? Too selfish?

Can it not be fixed?

Unlike marshon brooks, RS defense is oustanding at least.

Just revisiting this thread again.  I been following the Cardinals here and there and imo Russ Smith has improved nicely as a pg in his senior year. Today for example watched Cards crush Uconn. He only shot 1-2 for 3 pts, but had 13 assists and 4 stls. He also did a number defensively not only on napier but played also great team defense. He is definitely a thief on the court

His assist numbers this year are nothing to sneeze at(bc he is still a scorer also ) but avg about 5 a game vs avg about 2.5 (for prior years combined). It's a nice improvement and shows he could play the pg position.   Great athlete, extremely quick that is difficult to contain in transition and likes contact before twisting his body in different directions to get in layups. Durable and rarely injured.

Another guy i like on the cards is Harrell. Just a nightmare for opposing players to deal with. Just thrives on physical play and keeps going. Like Leon Power. I miss Powe, he was all heart. Has a near identical body to Bass, but is more explosive, will do alot more of the dirty work and is a better rebounder and shot blocker.

If Danny isn't enormed with anyone with our 2nd first , i wonder if he would consider trading for 2 2nd picks , and drafting these kind of guys.  Pretty exciting draft that is coming up after this season. Thoughts?
