IF our pick is in the top 3, would you trade it?

I always think about this - Rondo, Pierce, Durant, Jefferson and Perk would have been good enough to get a title?  What do you guys?

I don't think so. Durant wasn't ready for a few years and Jefferson needs to play C. They'd need to move Perkins to the bench and find a PF. Obviously Rondo + Durant gives you the foundation to build a contender easily by adjusting the pieces though.

Danny has said he knew he could get KG for just one of the top two picks (aka keep Jefferson and other pieces probably). I doubt he trades for KG with them though.

Rondo/Pierce/Durant/KG sounds like a very good lineup to me.

If we get 1 or 2, I say keep it no matter what. If we wind up at 3, most likely keep it too, but explore trades with anyone incredibly excited about swapping some serious talent for it.

I am optimistic about acquiring multiple long term pieces in this draft to fortify the foundation for the next decade. A couple of young studs in this draft, combined with pieces we already have will make us an interesting squad moving ahead.

I'm not over the moon for Love (will he break down soon?) or other 'stars' that have peaked, but aren't exactly franchise changers.

Have Durant play the 4. Sure, no one on that team plays defense, but it's points on the board every time down the court with Rondo-SG-Pierce-Durant-Jefferson 1-5.

They'd be beautiful offensively, I just don't enjoy watching Pierce guard 4s. He's a gamer about it but he gets the crap beat out of him giving up 2-3 inches and 30 lbs.

I've only seen Pierce play once in person in Chicago, that game went to OT and Davis went out. We had Pierce on Brad Miller by the end of the game over and over in the P&R.

It didn't go well lol.

Definitely would be fun to watch. 

I'm not sure they're getting past Detroit, Cleveland, or Orlando during '08-10, though. 

Probably Orlando although Howard is probably going off for 40+ a night.

Last year, a lottery pick of a damaged but highly touted player (Noel) didn't fetch much.  NO had to add another pick just to bet back Holiday.  If that is the market, then no, I do not trade our this year pick.

I actually think he trades for KG if he gets 1 or 2.  Basically the trade would have been the pick plus salary filler and no other value.  Boston would not have had Ray Allen though, but would have kept Jefferson, Delonte, Gomes, Telfair, Gerald Green, as well as the picks (two firsts in 2009 though the Minnesota one was protected), etc.  It would have been a very interesting team with Rondo/Telfair, West/Allen, Pierce/Green, Garnett/Gomes, Jefferson/Perkins.  I doubt that team wins the title that first season, but I think it would have been positioned pretty well over the next few and would certainly be in better shape now (assuming they kept Jefferson). 


I do think the better hypothetical is acquiring Ray Allen but KG still says no and Boston then goes after Pau Gasol.  I suspect Boston could have kept Jefferson using Ratliff as the main salary, a couple of firsts, and some of the other young guys (maybe Big Baby, Perk, Green, etc.).  That trade seemed on par or better than what LA was offering at the time (though Marc Gasol turned out great for the Grizz and was a guy they specifically targeted).

Since we didn't get the Durant slot, I think we'd be better off thinking about whether Rondo, TA/PP, Rudy Gay/Gerald Green, Big Al & J Noah were good enough to have a championship core.

Noah is a beast and would have been the anchor. TA would have added to that. PP, Big Al & Rudy would have provided scoring, and Rondo would set the table and do everything.

Not likely a championship team, but pretty competitive no doubt. Perk could have been flipped for something or could have shared the 5 spot w/ Noah.
