Melo (agrees to sign extension at end of year) chandler and Martin in
Green hump bogans bass, Boston 2014 first, Clippers 2015 first out

From Stephen A. Smith:

Quote
In other words, Anthony should not be a member of the New York Knicks two weeks from now. He should not be in position to hold the Knicks hostage once the summer rolls around. And let the record show, none of this is being said because of anything negative about Anthony.
It is because of the Knicks' ineptitude, their preoccupation with media policies and accessibility, public relations and spreadsheets -- everything but winning -- that Anthony should depart Gotham City sometime before Feb. 20. Because, truth be told, the Knicks are in no position to trust that anyone would want to stay with them.

Lost in all this back-and-forth regarding whether Melo should stay or go is the refusal of mostly sensible Knicks fans to actually be sensible. Go ahead and listen to Anthony say he loves being a New York Knick all you want. Listen to his lovely wife, La La, tell folks in the reality TV world that her husband isn't going anywhere else, debunking the myth that the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) is running the Melo Show instead of herself and her husband.

Just remember that Anthony still plans to opt out of his contract come July. He will be an unrestricted free agent. And then, if he decides to leave, not only will the Knicks be helpless to do anything about it, they'll also be devoid of the ability to ensure they'll receive equitable compensation for their most marketable commodity since Patrick Ewing and the most prolific scorer in the game next to Kevin Durant.

This has been discussed so many times on this blog, a new thread wasn't really necessary.  In fact I think that exact trade has made a number of rounds.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

1. I don't like the deal on its face. Giving up a potential high lottery pick and another first round pick as well as other assets.

2. I definitely don't give up these type of assets on Melo's word that he will resign. There is nothing binding there and if Melo doesn't like Boston or his wife LaLa hears too many honey nut cheerio jokes in the stands, he bolts and we gave up a large slice of our future for the last legs of Chandler.

We're back to square one and it would be like groundhog day. We get to try to sell off Chandler and do this season all over again.

Now, when Anthony exercises his early termination option and if he wants to sign here, then we can work out a sign and trade with the Knicks and will have leverage for a much better deal.

if the Knicks had as bad of a management as the Cavs, I would offer Green/Bass/anyone not named Rondo/Bradley/Sully for Melo and the clippers 2015 pick, throw in another 2 first rounders, just not the 2014 one

Rondo/Bradley/Wiggins or Parker/Melo/Sully

YES!

Getting Melo and Chandler? I'd give anyone not named Rondo for them.

There is no way the Knicks would do that deal.

This, they're not getting anything worthwhile in return.  A bunch of role players who are better fits on a good team than a bad team and late draft picks in exchange for their offensive and defensive anchors isn't even remotely fair.
