He's like the left handed/ better version of Marshon Brooks. hahaha
Naww. Doesn't look it. Brooks has handles and scoring, this Chris Johnson guy seems to rely on his hustle and has a weak right hand (from the little I've seen).
But young SGs wearing the Celtic number 12 have gotten better and better. Von Wafer --> Brooks --> Chris Johnson. Maybe if we keep at it we'll get a franchise player eventually with number 12.
From what I saw of Brooks this year, his ball handling skills weren't very good. He is a good shooter, but good ball handler, not so much.
I like CJ more after one game than anything I saw from Brooks here. CJ looked like he cared.
Actually Brooks does have some pretty good handles-- that along with scoring are his only true strengths. It's tough to judge Brooks much based upon this year, because he hardly played, but if you go back to his rookie yr in Jersey, he had plenty of playing time to put his handles on display.
One memory that does come to mind of Brooks and his ball-handling this yr is a game where he was playing in garbage time (obviously) and took the ball coast to coast, with a nasty behind the back crossover, right before laying it in. Not sure if anyone remembers that play. I can't think of many other examples of his ball-handling skills this yr, cause he played so sparingly.
I absolutely agree with you though, on the fact that Chris Johnson had a better game tonight than any performance Brooks had all season. Although he probably just about matched Brooks season high for minutes played tonight too haha.
I just remember him playing against the clips earlier this year fumbling the ball around a number of times when I was watching. He had more turnovers than assists as a celtic. He just didn't show any skills worth keeping unfortunately. He also never seemed very into the games. Maybe it is just my perception, but I never sensed a 'team-first' attitude from him at all.
Good luck to him in GS.
Good luck to Chris here in Boston. Maybe with two guards traded, and two more out with injuries CJ will get a chance at meaningful minutes in the next week or two. His chance to impress DA.
Yeah, I believe that about Brooks' assist to turnover ration. He certainly is not a good passer. When I said Brooks has some pretty good handles, I meant dribbling/ball-handling...that's mainly why he is a decent scorer on iso plays & can get his shot off.
As for CJ, he definitely should have his chance at mins this week. It's crazy to think our season-long logjam at SG is so depleted now. Lee gone, Brooks & Crawfish gone, Bogie sent home, and now Avery & Bayless are both hurt. All within a cpl weeks. We went from 5 SGs, thinned it down to a 2 SG rotation, and now we have 1 D-Leaguer holding down the fort, with another on the way, at least til Bradley & Bayless are back.
This is truly a golden opportunity for Chris Johnson to prove himself. I'm sure Green & maybe Wallace (uggh) will take up some of the mins at SG, but there will be plenty of mins to go around until AB & JB come back. Sometimes it just works out that way, and players who put in the dirty work in the D-League end up getting snatched up & put into a great situation.
Let's hope maybe Danny fished himself a nice catch out of the D-League.
