Given the Pelicans expressed interest in trading for big men, and having lost Ryan Anderson and Jason Smith to long-term injuries, what about the following:
Bass to the Pelicans and Jason Smith and Austin Rivers to the Cs.
Why for the Pelicans?:Bass is a pros-pro, provides solid rotation minutes in the front court, to address their need. Smith is lost for the season (likely) and expires at end of season. Allows them to move on from Rivers, a draft-bust. Gives them some protection off the bench going into next year at the 4.
Why for the Cs? : - Smith is just contract filler as he is injured and his contract expires at seasons end. Allows us to buy low on Rivers and gives us one (or if we want two) more seasons to raise his value, and provides some insurance at the two guard. Though Rivers has a team option for 2015/2016, he could expire next year, same as Bass. And if we were not to pick up the 2015/16 Rivers option, overall it saves us $1.5 mill in cap space and salary.
Works in the trade machine, with the "Hollinger Analysis" having it cost us two games this year and leaving the Pelicans unchanged.
