It seems like this thread took a detour from who else, besides, Melo the C's *could* get that would be their #1 scorer to go with Rondo/Bradley/Green/Sully/???. Probably have to subtract one of them to get that #1 scorer, but for the discussion, say we don't.

So, adding Melo and Asik (or a Chandler/Noah type) at the loss of Green and picks is one path:  Rondo/Bradley/Melo/Sully/Asik. That team is very good, but let's take it off the table.

Who else *could* the C's go after? And let's be realistic here. For example, we are *not* getting Paul George or Anthony Davis, nor are we getting Parker/Wiggins/Embiid. So, do you see a:

1. Disgruntled superstar the C's could go after?

2. An undervalued young guy who has a good chance to break out?

And what would the C's have to give up to get this guy(s)?

I can think of about 3 teams that the snitchster fits perfectly on.  The lakers, the heat, and the team he's currently on.

Actually, I think the Nets are a viable destination for Carmelo next season. He stays in the big city, he just changes boroughs. :) The Nets could drop Pierce, buy out KG, dump other salaries and offer Melo a sizable contract. Yes, they would stay way, way, into Luxury tax territory, but I bet Williams, Johnson, Melo, Kirelinko?, and Lopez would draw fans like flies!

I was mentioning the three teams I'd least want to see win a championship.  The snitchster...Like los Nash an Iverson before them...Will never be on a championship team.  Can't win a championship when one of your main players plays no defense at all.  After Pierce and Garnett leave NJ...I'd agree...That'd be another great destination for the snitchster.

There is no way in the world that the Nets can drop enough salary to be able to offer Carmelo enough money in free agency to play in Brooklyn. Its basically a fiscal impossibility at this point.

Could they trade for him? Sure but I seriously doubt the management in NY are going to do anything that makes their cross town rivals better and besides, other than Deron Williams or Brook Lopez, Brooklyn has nothing to offer NY in the way of quality assets for Carmelo

Generally speaking, I don't think Melo can win a title on a team where he is the "man." I would have serious reservations about bringing him into another situation where he is considered the best player and is expected to lead.

Melo might be able to succeed on a team with leadership and good defenders already in place, like say the Knicks with Billups, Stoudemire, and Chandler all 5 years younger and healthy. Billups and Stoudemire would be the leaders and provide ample offensive support. Chandler would anchor the D. Melo could be free to just get his 30 and not worry about anything else. Of course this is what the Knicks had in mind, the only problem was these guys were already too old and/or injury prone by the time they were available.

Good leadership is already in place here in Boston.  That is solidified by Rondo, Brad Stevens, and even Danny.  Melo shouldn't be brought here with the understanding that he is going be THE LEADER.  With his veteran status and his superstar status, he's going to be counted on be possess some leadership qualities but he shouldn't be the leader.  Rondo is still the man here no matter who they decide to bring in.
