He looks like, at least from the other videos I've watched, more like a Griffen, but with more game.

Maybe a Griffen/Webber mix. He can dribble, shoot a bit from the out side, and passes really well.

Right now on Draftexpress they have Griffen going at 4. But Parker is at 7? I'm down with that, Parker I think has the best all around game. Even though he's not a high flier, which would be nice to watch, I'd rather have a high IQ player then a Vince Carter or McGrady.

He reminds me a bit of Blake Griffin at that age without quite the power game, but way more handle.

nbadraft.net isn't so high on him. They compare him to Beasley and offered this as his weaknesses:

Quote
His game shows a lot of potential, but he's far from a finished product ... His shooting ability is troublesome. He shoots roughly 50% from the FT line and has no consistency outside of the paint ... Tweener. Doesn't have a well defined NBA position at this point. While he has tremendous explosiveness, he lacks perimeter skills (shooting, passing) and great foot speed. Lack of foot speed hurts him on both ends of the floor as it limits his on ball perimeter defensive efficiency as well as his ability to get by opponents off the dribble ... Foot work is not very good for a high level athlete ... While he is an elite athlete, his general quickness is not at an elite level ... Shows some developed ball handling ability but his lack of foot speed negates that ability to some degree. He gets nearly all of his points playing as a 4, and there are major questions about his ability to create offense for himself facing the basket. Granted, he's by far the tallest player on his high school team, so playing anything other than center is irrational from a team standpoint ... Plays too upright defensively. Looks a little stiff in his movements. While his physical strength is good, he appears to lack some flexibility in his body. Ankles and hips lack fluidity as he appears to run and move more like a 4 than a 3 ... Has been called "California soft" by some observers, but to his credit doesn't shy away from contact. He'll need to get a lot tougher if he decides that PF is his best position for the NBA level ...

I was put off as soon as I saw his build and the 6 8 height tag. Tweeners without a true position rarely work out unless you are of course Lebron James. Certainly reminds me of Beasley and even Derrick Williams.

Williams is not passer and not as explosive as gordon.

Williams also is a little too heavy for his size and position to play sf effectively. Only lebron can move the way he does at 240.

Gordon has a even better body than lebron out of hs. Big, strong, explosive, quick. So it will be interesting so see how he builds on this.

The griffin and gordon comparison while on surface
looks good is inaccurate if you look deeper. Gordon has way more skills at this point and griffin had even more strength and explosion. Still today the best griffin do is dunk, has as improved jump shot and block the ball. I see more things coming out of gordon than this

From the little i have seen I would peg him as more of a Marion/ Wallace type 3/4. I definitely wouldn't be upset to see him drafted by the Cs. In the first preseason game Sully and Kelly played well with wallace. Goordon could have a similar higher potential type role.

why would we want a poor mans lebron james?

because we're the team built by poor man's version of the nba stars
KO - poor man's Dirk
Sully - poor man's ZBo
Pressy - poor man's Rondo
Amateurs worry about equipment, professionals worry about money, masters worry about light… I just take pictures…

Pressey is not a poor man rondo. Pressey is a better shooter while rondo a better rebounder. Pressey is more like a darren collison, brevin knight type

Kids like him need to stay in school more than one year. There are a number of guys listed on Draft Express's mock for next year that could really do to stay in school at least 2 years; one for better draft positioning, and two, to improve their game. Gordon seems really raw. Embiid is another one. So is Wayne Selden and maybe James Young.
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity...

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I never like drafting guys who don't have a true position.  Gordon seems to lack the shooting, speed, and footwork to play the small forward position. If he's at least 6'9 he should be fine at the 4 assuming his rebounding and defense is up to par. IMO, you only draft him in the lottery if your certain he can play PF.

I stayed up to watch some of the Arizona SDU game last night mainly to see Gordon.

For better and worse to me he really looks like Gerald Wallace. Another comparison that came to mind was Tony Allen. The way he moves with the ball reminded me of a young TA.

Physically he is an ultra athletic PF, however his skill set  looks to be that of a stretch 4. He is a capable but not great ball handler and seems to lack polish to his face up game.

With that I think this kid is definitely worth a top ten pick just teams will have to be patient with him. I see him projecting as a best case senior super role player. Like wallace or Marion he could be a stat sheet stuffer in the NBA. The fear is this is also a model that has lead to alot of busts in recent drafts D Williams, Joel Alexander to name two.

Interested to see how Gordon plays this year because he is a undersized PF who is trying to move to SF.  He is a ridiculous athlete, probably the second best athlete in the draft behind Wiggins.  I think teams will get fired up with his athleticism and he will probably go higher than he should.  In the big picture, this will be the best year of College Basketball in decades....

I worry about tweeners, but he's explosive for sure.

to add more to this,

I wonder if skilled PFs like sully and kelly would be able to mask Gordons limited skill set and allow him to basically defend the 3 while playing the 4. Sane idea as AB defending the 1 while playing the 2.
