I've said it from the day kg +the captain were traded...
We have a very good perimeter combination that is very good at defending the perimeter.  This same combination, no matter what line up you use, is a terrible shooting combination.

We lost our only defensive big man and have not replaced him with anyone remotely close. I mean not even 25% of KG's defensive impact vocally or literally in the paint, pick and rolls or switches.
Our basket protection will be competing against the 76ers for the worst in the league.
Even the suns, cavs and bobcats have bigs that do an adequate job of patrolling the paint and altering shots. Al Jefferson is a better interior defender than ANYONE on this team. Bismack Biyambo is a better defender than anyone on this team. I never thought that I'd actually say that or contemplate that but that's what happens when you rebuild.
Who scores in the paint for us? Who shoots threes and jumpshots now that Pierce, Terry and KG are gone?
Unless you have 2 of the top 5 wing playersin the world AND an All Star big man like the Heat....the rule is that Bigs rule the NBA. We don't have bigs.
We will get destroyed inside by pretty much every team we play on both ends. We can't stop interior scoring and we'll have a tough time scoring against 12 of the 15 teams in the East. That would be okay if we could shoot, but we can't!
Our best player is coming off surgery and our starting sophomore power forwardnis coming off surgery
Our head coach has zero NBA experienceand although I have ko doubt he's eventually going to be awesome,  he's going to need a good 100 games to have any idea what the best way to utilize this team is.
People seem to think Stevens is gonna step in and continue n where Doc left off. Hes got to earn the trust and respect from a group of NBA players. There's a reason they've hired so many old school assistants around him because he's a fish out of water. The NBA made Pitino and Calipari look foolish.  Keep that in mind.

This will be a wake up call for most Celtics fans that are entertaining some fantasy of making the playoffs. The next season will be rough. The bookmakers have us as the 3rd to 4th worst team. The SB nation and ESPN votes are in and we are a bottom 4 or 5 team in both.
Its great to be optimistic, but use some logic and be at least realistic at our lack of inside presence and scoribg.

Don't you know the solution? Sully, Humphries, Olynyk or whoever the heck the Brazilian guy is starting at the 5. Problem solved (even though none of them are centers.)

I am still waiting to hear someone propose Avery Bradley as our opening night center.

Opening night point guard? Phil Pressey baby!

Get the duck boats ready!

Just having some fun ;D

I can't get over how young and athletic we are.

Guards: Pressey, Rondo, Bradley, Crawford, Lee, Brooks
Wings: Green, Wallace, Bogans
Bigs: Bass, Humphries, Faverani, Sullinger, Olynyk, Melo

Our least athletic guys, Sullinger and Olynyk are only 22 years old.  Whatever we are next year, we will be fun to watch on offense.  Rondo's never had so many toys to play with.  Run, Run, Run.

There's no doubt we'll be more fun to watch!

As much as we all loved Pierce/KG, towards the end it was getting to painful to watch.

At least our team this year will certainly be more energetic (at least I hope.)

I bet you will change your mind once you see this roster actually play.

I personally don't think we are all that athletic anyway. Green is. Bass is above average for a PF. After that, all our bigs are not athletic (haven't seen Faverani yet though). Crash looked shot last season.

Our most athletic guards are undersized and/or weak, nothing to get too excited about.

They might be fun to watch in transition, but I'm not sure how many stops they'll get to allow them to run.

Also, there's a pretty noticeable lack of outside shooting.  This team will neither have a guard / big man combo who can run a deadly pick and roll nor any truly gifted 1-on-1 scorers.  I expect them to be brutal on offense.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

being bad is relative to everyone else. The flaws in the Celtics are pretty obvious. However there are a lot of poor teams this year. I see little chance of the Celtics being in the 3-4 worst teams for the simple reason that the Celtics have more depth even if it is mediocre. A number of teams don't even have that. I see the problem differently. I see the Celtics having a draft pick from 7-15 and that is a problem because the draft in 2014 isn't particularly deep.

I think it still depends on

a) Rondo's health.  If he's out or diminished any significant amount, we suck no matter what else.

b) What Danny does with his remaining moves.

Danny has given indication that he wants to get under the luxury tax line.  If that is true, then he has to make at least one more significant move.

Danny could go either way with this lineup.  If he deals assets that are good, but 'capped', like Bass, Lee, Crawford, for assets with more upside (younger players or more draft picks), then we will probably suck.

If he trades assets plus a bunch of picks for say, a superstar, then we probably won't suck.

Note- its possible neither (a) nor (b) will be answered by the start of the season.
NBA Officiating - Corrupt?  Incompetent?  Which is worse?  Does it matter?  It sucks.

I'm not sure how capable this team will be at transition basketball or even how "fun" it will be.

For one, a lot of bad teams play at a really fast pace but they're also no fun to watch because they just can't execute well enough.

Two, transition defenses are too good.  This is the freaking NBA; teams don't let opponents run it down their throats.

Three, in order to really be a devastating transition team, you need bigs who can run.  Think of Denver the past few years with Faried or the great Phoenix teams with both Stoudemire and Marion as the bigs.  The Celtics don't have the speed in the frontcourt to be a great transition team.

Four, I'm not sure Brad Stevens even wants to run.  His teams at Butler sure didn't as they played at methodical paces.  Maybe it was because of the type of athletes he was able to recruit to Butler but until otherwise, I wouldn't just assume we'll be a running team because we have a young team and a young coach.

Five, Rondo himself.  He's one of the best at going coast to coast for himself but he's also very turnover prone as as passer in transition.  Also, I think he loves the chess game of a half court set.  My guess is that he enjoys playing at a slower pace than just fast breaking and setting up quick-bang offense over and over.
