Does it make it clearer that it was intended as a joke if I pointed out that Georges Niang is an Iowa State player who will be a sophomore next season?

Niang joked that Hoiberg turned down the Celtics job because he had had enough of Boston just from dealing with Niang, who is from Methuan, MA.

So, the joke is a) the ridiculous idea that Hoiberg would turn down the Celtics job and b) that Niang is obnoxious enough to make his coach want nothing to do with Boston.

If a joke has to be explained in detail, it's not a good one. Plus I'm going to go with the interviewer on this one

Well, the interviewer laughed after Niang told his joke and Niang looked like he was trying to fight back a smirk while he told it.

It must be the offseason.  Its a joke people!  I am an ISU fan and love Hoiberg, but there is no way Ainge offered him the job first.  He's a great, up and coming young coach, but Stevens has real tournament experience.  But if you want to believe this, I just heard that the Lakers offered us Kobe Bryant for Humphries and Wallace's contracts!

If you love Hoiberg so much than you must realize his NBA experience both as a player and an exec/coach as well as connections to former Celtics DA trusts make him a more qualified on paper than Stevens and his NCAA tournament experience.

Yeah. It's the kind of joke you would tell one of your players to boost the morale on the team. Maybe it's not that ridiculous that he would turn it down, but Hoiberg obviously made fun with the fact that he was staying at Iowa State, because there had been rumors that he was in the Celtics' search light.
