They're playing in Vegas aren't they?

Thanks for the Vid - I'd be happy if he just turned out to be a 3rd string enforcer for us - that would be great.

Paidthecost - There is another summer league this year. But do you mean you wish Sully was going to have another summer league?

I was hoping the Celts as a team were participating in more than one Summer league (Not going to L.V. or Europe) this year since we seem to need time to observe players and a coach a lot more than we needed to last year.

If I am wrong and Orlando is not the only Summer tournament?...I'd be thrilled to be wrong.
There will be two Summer Leagues, but Boston is only participating in one of them. Boston will be in Orlando next week playing 5 games. They won't be in Las Vegas.

If I'm not mistaken, they will also play a pre-season game in Canada this year against the Canadian National Team. Makes picking Olynyk even more interesting as he's played on the CNT for the last couple of years, hasn't he?

For a second round 7 footer, not bad. Enforcer is likely his upside though. The two biggest things I see is that he is very slow and deliberate in all his movements. Probably too slow for NBA competition. He also clearly only has one post move. A drop step jump hook to his right hand. With his limited vertical, he will have a hard time getting that off in the big leagues. That being said, if he is willing to just be a big body, then he might have a future.
Might be too slow, but we won't really know until he plays a bit and has a chance to adjust to the pace. Some guys can do it, some can't. Iverson *has* the length, can jump a bit, and is a wide body.  I'd compare him to Greg Ostertag...I'd *love* for him to give Ostertag's production.

Colt never showed a jump shot in college, but he looked really good in a video I saw of him after the draft. Sure it was a highlight *practice* reel, but he hit quite a few shots from 3 and 2, one after another with pretty good form. He had a slow release, but it was quick enough and he looked accurate enough to force teams to account for him if he steps outside. Can he do it in games? Probably, not right away, but given a little time he probably can.

I'd say he has a chance of being a backup center on a good team. He'll have to be able to adjust to NBA speed and he'll have to keep working on that jump shot.

He's surprisingly old. Already 24, and just getting into the draft?

When does the summer league start? I am thinking he and Kelly will do well in the summer league. Also who is playing on our squad?

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism

Good breakdown. I think there are probably a number of people who watched the videos and wondered why he didn't go much higher. The hook shot is solid, though and it is very possible that his mid-range shot could become useful. I agree that his toughness and rebounding are what his NBA future is hinging on.

I'm a Homer in "Man Love" but I wear my heart on my sleeve ;D

Looks like somebody last year told him do 1 or 2 things great ( to make any shot in the NBA realistic) and not 4 or 5 things pretty good and his coach knows that and THAT'S why he's here and he's gonna see floor time.

What the defense is gonna be will effect his play. Looks like he can play in the phone booth next to the rim and if that and setting hard screens and stripping fighting for balls and making that area his own mosh pit are his orders he will surprise I think. Olynyk gives Colton a chance to thrive since they both have what a team needs but nut necessarily the same things. Olynyk and Iverson are not redundant  and that's nice for 2 7 footers ;D

Quote
One NBA talent evaluator who spent time scouting Iverson said he "certainly liked him." "I don't know how good an NBA player he will be but I would not be inclined to sleep on him, if only because I think that (expletive) plays his (expletive) off every play," he said. While noting that Iverson isn't "a rim-protecting presence defensively," he continued: "But as far as bangers go I like him because I think not only does he have the disposition for it, his game reflects it."

Main Site story.

Nobody sleepin but the SG that drives into him with his head down ;D
