Apparently they've been forcing him through long conditioning drills before games, which may explain why he looked so bad in his few NBA minutes.

Conditioning came up once when the Red Claws's coach was interviewed.

I'm guessing conditioning is problem.

Out of respect, prepping him for a nice, long career in Europe?

I'd be giving him at least another year's look before i made assumptions about stuff like that.

Any source on this? If that's true, I actually feel a lot better about Melo. I have been hoping that he's either injured or terribly out of shape in order to explain why he vanished after a handful of promising D-league games.

Quote
“His conditioning has gotten so much better. When he was with Maine, we’d be doing workouts with him before the game. Sometimes he was tired four minutes into the game because he was working out for an hour and a half before. We’re more concerned about Fab’s development than we are about necessarily winning all the games in Portland. We’re hoping he can have a presence defensively for us. He’s got to become a better rebounder. He’s working at all that.”

An hour and a half before the games.

Give him another year. His income is a little investment to hopefully get a good backup center. Worth the risk.

Conditioning was a problem at Syracuse too.

All the conditioning in the world won't help his bad hands.  He needs to play with a tennis ball around the clock and practice catching it.

It's surprising o hear he has a conditioning issue with his soccer background. He also needs to be a better rebounder and defender?  This kid is a project. Another year makes sense.

Tall guys almost always get winded easier than their shorter counterparts.   Even though they have longer legs they must have more mitochondria to fuel or the like.  But I recall the Army and Basketball most tall guys ( not all ) had some issues.

Fab Melo's off-season plans include staying away from door frames.
