OK, I will just review the facts here:

1. On May 7, SAS floats the "Doc, KG and Pierce to the Clips" rumor: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1631957-stephen-a-smith-starts-ridiculous-kg-pierce-and-doc-to-clippers-trade-rumor.

2. On May 10 he gives advance warning of the Nets' request to talk with Doc: http://clnsradio.com/boston-celtics-news/item/6867-stephen-a-smith-talks-again-doc-rivers-being-recruited-by-the-brooklyn-nets.

3. On May 17, SAS again hints that Doc is thinking about leaving: http://www.celticsblog.com/2013/5/17/4342328/stephen-a-smith-back-with-more-doc-rivers-rumors.

Then today we have the appearance by Doc...in which *absolutely none* of this comes up.

I see two possible explanations for that:

1. SAS was afraid to mention any of it because he fabricated it all, and didn't want Doc to rake him over the coals;
2. Doc specifically made it a condition of his appearance on the show that SAS could not ask any questions about this stuff.

Interesting. I will give Smith credit though; even though none of the rumors were discussed, this gives him some credibility he didn't have before, in the sense that if Doc were really angry, he would probably just not appear at all.

Thoughts?

Looks like there is some truth to SaS's words, but not anything Doc is comfortable talking about publicly.

What Doc gave him is a silent affirmation.

KG's Knee,

Unless I am mistaken, Doc is under CONTRACT to be OUR coach for another 4 years.

http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/nba/news/story?id=6540602

Therefore, he can't coach for another NBA team under those circumstances, can he?

Well, it would depend on whether or not the Celts allow it.  Technically he could with permission, but I was more speaking in hypothetical terms.

Yep.  Kind of weird praise for Steven A. being so knowledgeable, too, at the end when he said they'd be talking again soon about the C's.

Also, I wondered if Doc's comments about not being able to beat the Heat with speed was in any way a push-back against the Herald story suggesting that Danny's been an advocate for the uptempo game.

He CANNOT commit to the Celtics next year?????????????

Isn't he signed for SEVERAL MORE YEARS????????????????

Who does he think he is?

I would demand an answer RIGHT NOW if I were Danny.  We should NOT have to go thru this EVERY year.  Other teams do NOT go thru this bull!!!

Losing Doc is not that huge a deal for me!!!  Perhaps Doc is becoming too big for his britches and the Celtics.  If so, let's QUICKLY cut ties!!

Bye bye Doc.  You are really an average coach.

Could not agree more. Since when can you sign a 5 year extension and then at the end of every season question whether you'll be back or not?  You committed, now live up to your end of the bargain!

This is speculation obviously, but I'm starting to believe this idea that Doc is holding out, or trying to exert leverage, or whatever you want to call it, until Danny commits to bringing back Pierce.

I can't think of another reason for Doc to desire to legitimize Smith's comments in this way.

The thing is Doc is the highest paid coach in the league (I think, right?), if the Celtics enter rebuild mode (KG, Pierce don't come back) it doesn't make sense to have Doc anymore, the team would probably be happy if he wanted out of his contract.

It doesn't make sense to have such a high paid coach on a rebuilding team.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Journalists are a rare thing in this era of ESPN, FOX and MSNBC and CNN.   All of them hype certain aspects and ignore others.
