I can't see Toronto making a deal for Bass, JET and Melo since Bass and JET aren't very desirable assets and are on deals the same length as Bargs. If the Raps would do this, I'd pull the trigger simply because Bargs is the better offensive player, has a contract the same length as those 2 and could improve on D (speculation but until he plays for a defensive team and fails, I can't write him off as a crappy defender)
While Bass, Terry and Melo are not very desirable assets they do fit well into Toronto's rotation and bring to the table the skills/experience the raptors need. Bass becomes Amir Johnsons backup and fits with the athleticism this team already has. He also brings veteran experience to their front court. Terry pairs with Bass and Allan Anderson to form the core of their 2nd unit. He can serve as Lowrys backup and becomes the Veteran leader of this team. He brings them alot of veteran playoff leadership and a perimeter shooter. Melo could develop into a perfect backup for Jonas.
For the Raptors Bargnani is addition by subtraction he is the last piece of there last failed rebuild attempt and doesn't fit with what they are building. Trading him for two rotational players and a young prospect is better than taking on a monster contract (boozer) or having to lose other assets (as reported) to move his deal.
JET was supposed to be that type of player for us this year. didn't pan out very well. can't see Toronto ignoring that.
that's pure speculation thta Melo will develop into anything resembling a competent backup big.
I think my point still stands. However, if you can sell Toronto on this deal, I'm all for it.
I agree that Bass, Terry and Melo really isn't a package that Toronto would be willing to move Bargs for since they could just amnesty him and get the cap savings that way.
My only thought would be that when Bass is playing at his current level/showing this kind of effort and working on the boards he is actually a very reasonably priced back up PF. And he would be a really solid complement to Amir Johnson's inside game.
Terry struggled here, but they have the bigs to run pick and rolls like he ran in Dallas so they may take a chance. Plus at his age he might retire before the end of his contract (especially if sent to the Raptors) so they could clear half Barg's salary and still get a quality back up and a major project big.
Really it all comes down to what other teams are willing to offer. I don't see many jumping at taking on Barg's for 10m so maybe they are willing to cut their losses.
