And they would be wrong. McDermott is a clear first rounder.

Would have been hilarious to read this board back in the late 70s to see what the "experts" were saying about Larry Bird. McDermott isn't Bird. Yet. But he's a lot better than some of the silliness being posted about him on this board.

There must be a reason people deem him a second-rounder.

bc people think if you don't have 7 ft wingspan and can move as fast as dwade, you are toast in the nba.

Sully is a perfect example to never underestimate IQ and hard work.

I'm not stating Mcdermott will be a bonadife nba superstar. But he will be a good nba player. If you consider Kyle Kover as a pretty darn good nba player, than Mcdermott will be just as good at worse if not better.

People expected Sully to get first overall.
Nobody's ever even heard of "McDermott".

If he was that good, and we average fans can see it, you'd expect one analyst to notice, at least. Right? I think this guy's getting overestimated. His game didn't even look good when I saw him.

Haven't seen him in the first-rounds of any mock drafts.

(I'm not a big college fan, since Draymond Green is gone now :()

nbadraft.net he is listed in the 20's. BTW even though Green was a good college all around player, Mcdermott is considered a much deadlier player.

I think the first "hitch" is that PP will want out if KG retires.  I , for one, think that KG will retire unless the celtics make the FINALS AND he feels good in the off season.
Pierce will be getting a huge check from the celtics, I know the man likes to win but the celtics will be winning enough and the $$$ will be huge.  There is just as much chance as the celtics trade/release him.

I'd rather add solid vets to a VERY good core of young guys ainge has lined up:
rondo, bradley, lee, green, sully
then draft guys who are  :-[  ok in a weaker draft

This draft is certainly not "weak". Where do people get this from?? Tim Hardaway Jr. is considered a pretty good prospect, and projected to come out of the late 1st round. This years draft is no weaker than last years, or the years before. Take a look at clips of some of the guys i'm hoping we pick up. Its not highlights of the best plays either. These guys do this game in and game out pretty much.

Mcollum - CLUTCH player. Ball handling is second to none (and after Pierce if he is traded, we will need a guy who can handle the ball)

Mcdermott- 0:26 sec. I think only think of 3 nba players that can even shoot threes cathching the ball on the move, fading from an angle. 0:34, 0:39 - nowitzki like shooting. But release is so much faster. Overall a glimpse of inside and outside domination.

Withey - All i can say is 2:56 and then 3:07. That is o/s quickness for a 7 ft guy. Also the shot blocking and rebounding makes it a little less harder to lose kg .Overall, color me impressed

And a mock draft means exactly what?

Answer: Nothing.

I don't agree that this is a particularly good draft, but there will be great value - including McDermott, who is going to play 10-plus years in the league - with the Celtics' first pick.

Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

I want the C's to take a look at Mike Muscala since we really need a big guy. Solid inside game with the ability to hit shots from the outside. Solid passer for a big man. He's also a good rebounder grabbing something like a board every 2.9 minutes this season so far and rebounding translates.

I know people are going to be hesitant that he's from the Patriot League but he's had some monster games against schools from bigger conferences and I think he's a sleeper pick for the late first round.

McD is OK, I guess. But I want a BIG to pair with Sully or Melo, and a taller wing to backup Green/AB

you want players that look like "models". Guys with ideal size plus skills plus iq plus motor, are not usually found outside of the top 10-12 picks. And sometimes they don't pan out anyways. To be realistic we are going to be picking outside of the lotto.

After the Sully revelation, i want guys who can "play" the game more than anything. No need to label a position for them but just are basketball players.

So, a TWill type?

I think we can find some big man, just to clog the paint get three rebounds a game. Shouldn't be that impossible...

you seen the Withey clip i put up. Likely he will be available when we pick. I would pick him over guys who are supposedly rank higher like Olynyk, Austin. Withey's downside is lack of natural offensive skills. But his defense and quickness more than makes up for it
