How would we save money this year to get Serge Ibaka next year, we only have one roster spot left, how much do you possibly think we could "save"?
well, it all depends what happens to PP or KG this year...If one of them gets injured, then the C's amnesty whoever it is. or better yet, retire him. with that, i believe the C's will pay him what his contract states, but it will be not be included in the computation of the salary cap...with that, we have money now to offer serge, or better yet, howard.
I shouldn't bump this thread, but I'm going to.
KG can't be amnestied. Please never suggest this again. The rules do not allow it.
Pierce can be amnestied. The only way on earth that this happens is that he tells DA he wants to retire. This will make many of us sad, so please don't suggest that again, either.
The only other player who can be amnestied is Rondo, because only players who signed their contract before last season are eligible for amnesty. That's not going to happen, unless Rondo winds up in jail for the next decade. That would obviously be very unfortunate for many people, so let's not hope for that to happen, either.
Now, to play devil's advocate for you. If we amnestied Pierce, chose not to pick up Bradley's option and renounced him, renounced all of our other cap holds, and renounced use of the mid-level and bi-annual, we would have about $54 million committed next season. If the cap gets as high as $66 million, which is possible if you just go off the projections they put in the CBA, we would have $12 million to go after Ibaka with. That's probably not enough to get him, but it would at least be competitive. Of course, it'd also probably make our team worse next year.
