Dont play Green at the four. He is not a good enough rebounder to play significant time at the pow :)er forward. We will get killed on the boards.
Clearly Doc thinks it's worth taking that chance. I'm inclined to agree.
Have people forgotten the past 5 years where Doc has played the likes of Posey and Pietrus at the 4 for extended periods of time? Arguably our best lineup in 2008 featured James Posey at the 4.
We can debate how much 4 Green should play or how good he is at it, but he's certainly more capable than Posey or Pietrus were at the 4. And if the Celtics could be strong with them there, there's no reason to think they can't be even more successful with Green there.
(And all of that isn't even getting into the undersized, poor-rebounding power forwards that we've had there over the past 5 years including Powe, BBD, and Bass. With the way some people whine about Green at the 4, one would think that we've been playing Kevin McHale or Karl Malone there the past 5 years.)
Are you suggesting that a 12/13 Green is as good of a defender at the at the power forward as 07/08 James Posey?
It's pretty close. Those Posey at the four lineups were better offensively with James in for Perk but we took a serious hit defensively when Posey was our power forward, especially in the playoffs.
No way not even close. Green is not the defender Posey was. Posey also had a nasty edge ala Dennis Rodman which added to the intimidation factor. Jeff Green is about as passive as they come.
During the season Posey's opponent's PER was 5.5 points higher when he was a pf, during the playoffs it was about 3 points worse. During the season our defense was 8 points a game worse when Posey was a pf compared to a sf, in the playoffs we were 14 points worse. That nasty edge didn't have the effect that you remember it having.
I remember fine thank you. Stats are nice Dont put all your faith in stats. Opponents per seriously? Its not quantifiable.
Okay, so you don't like opponent's PER. Truth be told, it's not my favorite stat either. How about the part that the Celt's defense was significantly worse with Posey at pf compared to sf, on the order of 10 points a game worse? Last year that would be the difference between being number 1 in the league defensively and number 25 or so. If you remember fine, then surely you must be aware of that.
I never said Posey was better at PF then SF. I said Posey was a much better defender at the PF then Green will ever be. apples and oranges
Fair enough, I suppose we'll see, but I'd be somewhat surprised if our defense drops off more with Green playing pf than it did with Posey playing pf.
