Is that the same lady that wouldn't let Bosh take his kid to London for the Olympics (not that it matters now)?  I was just curious.

Seems a bit strange that someone getting 2600 a month in child support would need food stamps.  That is a lot of money.

If the article is accurate she has a very large house to upkeep.

Not hard to get yourself in trouble in such a situation when you are dependent on others for the bulk of your income.

Judges have a ton of leeway, alternatively she could have settled for that amount as part of the custody agreement.

Yeah, you'd think so ... unfortunately people live beyond their means no matter how much their income, (example: Pro athletes who go bankrupt all the time). Whether you make 2600/mo or 260K/mo, it's easy to spend it all if you want to. The joys of captalism and putting everything on plastic.

She is trying to live above her means. As far as I'm concerned, she and the child can live off 2600 a month.

It depends on the size of that mortgage, but yeah, if it's too high then she is living way above her means.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Why would you possibly need to pay 30k a month in child support?

I don't get it. Is it because she's got custody? Is that how that works?

I don't get how if the father is rich and the mother has custody, the father still has to pay exorbitant child support.

I get alimony (not that its the 'same thing'), as in I understand how alimony could be a crap ton of money.

But child-support to a child born out of wedlock? $2600 should be enough to raise anyone's baby. Its over 31k a year!

Losing a job will make most people live beyond their means though. If her job was providing 30% more of her income I bet there aren't many of us who wouldn't be in some trouble in similar circumstances.

Yeah I'm confused by that as well, I wouldn't be shocked if the article confuses the two.

Bosh makes what he pays yearly in child support every six minutes he plays on the court.  If I'm earning $15m a year, and my child is living with her mother, I make sure the child is living comfortably. If the mom is working, $31k a year might be enough to do that.

With the job loss, I'd kick in at least a few more bucks to make sure my child is all set.  Considering that Bosh has made $87m already in his career, if he has even $10m in the bank at 1% interest, that's enough interest each year to pay his child support three+ times over.

Kick your baby's mama another couple thousand a month, you Jurassic Park extra lookalike.

Nope, no way.

If she can't raise the kid properly on that amount, then the kid needs to go live with daddy.

This woman isn't entitled to his money, they were never married.

I understand that feeling TOT, but how do we know he's not doing that anyways, in the form of stuff for his kid?

I dunno, I've just seen too many bad mothers and fathers use their kids in power plays for money to judge much beyond what the courts say should be paid. To me, it's up to Bosh to be a good dad, pay whats obligated at least, and to put his kids first, and to keep any personal garbage between him and the woman away from his kid.

But, I'm a childless unmarried 28 year old guy, what do I know of such things?
