JJ/Horford/Gasol would be a fearsome trio.

I've said all along that I could see this trade happening, and I could see this turning the Hawks into serious contenders.

Lakers fans will learn to miss Gasol.

I imagine the Lakers would insist on Teague accompanying Smith.

Teague/Kobe/Artest/Smith/Bynum - still pretty woeful in terms of perimeter shooting/spacing, but much more dynamic defensively and dribble penetration offensively.

I agree , I think the Hawks really win in this deal.

Agreed, I just don't like the idea of a Bynum and Smith front court - especially without a legit point guard running the show. If I was LA, I'd be calling around the league for a point guard upgrade first and foremost.

This trade makes sense for both teams. Especially when looking at the way player contracts breakdown on the Lakers. This still keeps everyone expiring at 2014 when James, Wade and others hit free agency.

Not sure if Atlanta would do this, but I assume LA would

Gasol, Blake

for

Smith, Teague, Williams
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I'm nto sure it makes sense for the Lakers. I think Smith is an appealing player, he does a little bit of everything and makes a ton of highlight plays. But that won't make up for the amount of rebounding they'll lose by getting rid of Gasol.

Hmmm.  And LA would use Williams as a combo forward off the bench.

That leaves Atlanta pretty thin on the wings.  Do they spend their MLE on a wing (Jeff Green?) and then hope Blake, rookie, vet mins can handle the point?

2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

I think both Teague and Marvin Williams is too much. One or the other is fine but not both.

Too difficult to build up their supporting cast (after losing Teague + Marvin) with the short-term window they'd have with Pau Gasol and Joe Johnson. Need one of them to stay.

Smith has shown that he can rebound - he averaged about 14 per game in the last series against us. I understand the regular season is different but I don't think the Lakers would fear a big drop off there. The Lakers are clearly looking to move on from Gasol and take on a player with a short term deal that plays a position of need. Smith looks like that candidate.

I think LA would want to dump Artest into the deal if they are taking back Marvin Williams.

That'd be too bad -- I was sort of salivating at the thought of Smith, Bynum Kobe and Artest.  The volatility quotient would be off the charts.

Yeah, I just know the dollars are an issue.  It may still work with Pachulia instead of Williams, though I don't know if they would want to get trade him either.

The problem is the lakers want a high draft pick, and the hawks dont have it to give... Anyway that bobcats, kings, or gsw picks could somehow be involved in the deal?

Smith, Williams and the 23rd
Evans and the 5th
Gasol

?

I dont think the Hawks could work it out in anyway unless Teague or JJ were shipped to a team with a high draft pick to flip to the lakers.

Smith and Bynum shooting threes on the same team. Bahahahaha.
I think Smith would make most teams in this league better, but not LAL. Doesn't seem like a fit.

Can't we just bring Gerald Green back?
