I say wait until after March 22nd, then if he still wants a buyout, give him one, and good riddance, but he won't be able to be on anyone else's playoff roster if he signs after that date (I think that's the date).
If you do that, what incentive does he have to agree to any buy-out that saves the Celtics money?
None, but I don't much care about his incentive. He signed a contract (and should honor it) and has substantially underperformed his contract. I don't want to help him at all if his goal is to ditch us to hitch his wagon to Miami.
It's not my money, but I'd not allow him to go that route. Now, if Wyc, et al, see fit to buy him out and save a little cash that's their business. Being a fan, on principle, I'd much rather make him honor his contract. If he's capable of playing, why should he be allowed to bolt from us to Miami just because he feels like he can ride the coat tails of Wade, James, and Bosh to a ring? It's dishonorable. You sign a contract, you fulfill it, whether the team you signed the contract is favored to win the championship or is far from it.
