Hansbrough is under contract next season (plus has the QO for 13/14). No need to negotiate an extension right away. And you have to take your chances with rookies. Especially because they tend to be so underpaid as long as they're relatively productive.

The late first round pick has a much better chance of being the next J.R. Kiddsn than the next Rajon Rondo and extending Tyler Hansborough would be putting the cart before the horse; you don't sign your future bench in the NBA before you sign your future starters.

You don't trade for Tyler Hansbrough because you see him as a Celtic for life, but you do trade for him as the sort of young player on a cheap contract that you can add to a package for the player you really want.  Right now, the Celtics don't really have what it takes to get a future core player, so any young player acquired should be seen as a trade asset that you expect to trade in the future.

This is the same guy who claimed Danny was "Aggressively shopping Rondo" and Danny vehemently refuted that claim.

And that the warriors backed away from a rondo curry swap - as if Danny was desperate to dump him for an injury risk player like Curry?

The same guy who broke the story that Chris Paul wouldn't stay with Boston if traded there. I sense some bad blood between these two and I don't think Broussard is acting like proper journalist should - frankly his celtics related rumors all present Ainge in a terrible light and I find it hard to believe he isn't spinning his intel in this way to get back at Danny for some reason, perhaps simply b/c Danny so strongly refuted his 'agressively shopping rondo' crap story.

Just putting this out there..

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7wjynr7

If this was the trade it wouldn't initially feel right to the celtics fans however if Wallace doesn't pick up his option and looks for a long term deal that puts the Cs 40mill under the cap (based on the 25mill free cap space + pierces 15mill).

With that much $$ the Cs could attempt the following

Rondo+Avery+JJJ+2 Rookies
     40 mill free

sign Batum for 12.5 mill (would portland pay more?)
     27.5 mill free

sign Eric Gordon for 12.5 mill (would NO aka NBA pay more?)
     15 mill free

sign J Green for 6 mill
     9 mill free

sign Lopez (or best center available) for 5.5 mill
     3.5 mill free

sign Pietrus for 2.5 mill
     1 mill free

pick up option on Steimsma for  .75 mill (it think)

PLAN B if Batum is unattainable go after R Anderson, If Gordon then go after Mayo

2013 plan A

C     : R Lopez(or other FA C), Steimsma,(Rookie)
PF    : J Green, JJJ (plan B ryan anderson)
SF    : Batum, Pietrus, (Rookie) (plan B J green plays SF)
SG    : E Gordon, Avery, (Rookie)(Plan B Mayo)
PG    : Rondo,(min vet),(2nd round rookie)

then we just run

It's a terrible trade.

If the Celtics want to trade Pierce for cap room, trade him for a contract that will expire at the end of the season.  Not for a lesser player that might opt out.

Then hold onto him.

Maybe his value goes up next year when the contract is shorter.

Or maybe he retires a Celtic.

Both options are better then trading for Wallace.
