Does Utah laugh at us for suggesting this?

Yes.

No, I wouldn't do it. It doesn't make Boston a contender. Not too happy about getting stuck with Big Al's contract while trying to rebuild either. Then two first round picks on top of that (hurting rebuilding further). Not enough to make the team a contender plus hurts rebuilding. Non-starter for me.

As for Utah, I doubt they'd do this deal either. They won't want to give up Millsap. I am sure they'd like to keep him around to play with Kanter and Favors. They'll want to move Big Al at some point but they won't have any trouble finding offers for him. No need to give up Millsap without getting a superior bounty in return.

Big Al comes off the books in 2014, so we'd have him for 1.5 seasons.
They aren't happy with Millsap for some reason, they want to trade him for Rondo.
Seems like they are willing to give us Favors and a top 10 pick for Rondo,as long as we take on Harris- which I'd probably do as well, even after considering how much I hate Harris.

Where did you read that the Jazz weren't happy with Milsap?  The reason they are looking at trading either Jefferson or Milsap (not both) is to create playing time for Favors and Kanter.  The trade is bad for us.  We get a smaller PF and a C/PF who puts up numbers but is considered non-interested in defense.  Plus we give up alot of cap space.

Putting Milsap and Jefferson in your lineup wouldn't make other players want to come to Boston as a FA.  Plus giving up 2 #1's is just terrible.  This is going to be a deep draft and WE NEED YOUNG ATHLETIC guys added to the roster...

On their forums and their fanblog, Millsap and Jefferson are quite polarizing, like Rondo to our fanbase.
The trade is bad for us? We get two All Star level big men who prove the scoring and rebounding we need right now, and the expensive one is locked up for one season after this.
Doc gets on to them defensively and we have a nasty starting 5 that is definitely competing for a title, both these guys would be getting the easiest makes from Rondo all day long, whilst giving us the defensive and OFFENSIVE rebounding that we so desperately require.

Do you really think we are going to strike gold twice in the lottery with two picks in the 15-20 range, or get two guys that would give us the production that these two would give us immediately?
Rondo needs able bodies now, and Millsap can definitely run the floor with Rondo and Jeff Green.

You don't make trades because of forums and fan blogs.  Those are th eonly people suggesting trading for both of these guys..  What I do know is you don't win with Milsap and Jefferson as your PF and C.  The Jazz aren't winning with them either.  Plus who said anyting about hitting "gold" on both Lottery picks (which by the way you have no idea when we'd pick if they're lottery picks).  ALso, don't say anything about Rondo needing able bodies now and then mention Jeff Green.. that doesn't make any sense.

McHale was called the blackhole too and no one ever wanted him traded.

Utah won't trade any major piece without getting Rondo in return.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Well this way we could possibly attract free agents to Boston in the off season.
A trio of Rondo, Millsap and Aig Al might be decent bait to get a good shooting guard.

If you did that trade you'd have no cap room to get a free agent.

You'd have Ray, JO and pretty much everyone else coming off the books with about 10-14 million to sign a FA wouldn't you?
Someone like Iguadala for 8-9 million a year, with Jeff Green off the bench or starting for Pierce?
Then Big AL comes off, leaving 15 million more to sign a FA big man in 2014-15.

starting five in 2014:
Rondo
Iggy
Jeff Green
Millsap
(insert beast free agent center here)
Nah... I like that you didn't bother to do any actual math you just kinda assumed "they come off the books... cap space! wee!"...

If you did your trade you'd have Rondo, Pierce, Big Al and Millisap under contract.  That's 54 mil right there... another 3.5 if you take on Bell's contract... so 57.5  ...

Cap is what... 58 mil?  That gives you a total of 0-4 mil to offer Jeff Green and Iggy.  But it is true after next season, BIg Al, Pierce and Millisap would all come off the books.... so then you'd have actual cap space.
I actually assumed they'd just go over the cap, but you are right because the tax would be horrific.
The only way this works is if we amnesty Pierce or he retires.

We are more likely to only get one of Millsap or Big Al and I'd rather keep KG than get just Big Al.
Maybe if they gave us a pick with Big AL but I doubt they do.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

Read that last line again. One more time.
