Disagree. This team needs to not make the playoffs this year.
If this is all about rebuilding, what difference will being the 1st or 2nd team outta the playoffs? If we're not gonna be in the lottery, we may as well get the young guys playoff experience.
Either way, I think the C's will probably have to earn their way into the playoffs. They're a team that only doesn't need the playoffs if they really don't deserve it. There's no reason for the Celtics to be out of the playoffs if they earn a playoff spot, even if that's the 8th spot. At least there's a chance, 1%, 0.1%, what have you, that make even noise, let alone a championship. They can't do that if they don't make the playoffs, and I doubt they'll be so bad as to get a meaningful draft pick such as in the lottery.
Difference between making it and not making it is 15th or 16th pick versus the 11th or 12th pick. That might not sound like a big difference, but if you consider that the 11th or 12th pick could be packaged with the Clippers pick and perhaps Rondo to move further up in the draft, then the difference is pretty significant.
