The trade doesn't work for the Celtics, in my opinion. The Celtics need to add depth inside, not deplete it for one player. If the Celtics want to play JJJ, they should just do so. We'll know in the next 2 weeks if he's a better rotation option than Bass.
Good point....although we already know every big is a better option than JON and Doc keeps playing him. I'd rather play Avery B at center

We really don't know that, some of us realize that he's in there mainly for his defense.

Allow me to be sarcastic and possibly condescending for a moment

Oh riiiighhttt.   You never worry about the other team outscoring us when JON is in there? We're all like "Alll riiighttt! JON is in there to give us some major defensive minutes! They'll never score now?"

Ya gotta be able to run and jump to play defense

My observation has been that JO has played very good defense this year.

It's interesting to me that we have one of the best defenses in the league as a team, yet all our players suck at playing defense.

How are we pulling this off?
It's interesting to me that we have some great defense but can't win. How is that happening?
Is this a real question? Most of out losses came in the beginning of the season when players were hurt, and/ or wasn't in basketball shape. After we got healthy and in shape that's when our defense went up a notch, and we have only loss 3 games, the Cleveland comeback, a one point over time loss, and that disaster to the Raptors. So again how do we have one of the best defenses if all of our guys suck at it?
I don't think the Celts as we have seen them and are seeing them is all that good at anything.

The team was horrid to start the year. They did a lot of losing for about a solid month till about Jan 20th. Then they ripped off some wins, very few of which are quality wins. The beat the WIzards once. They beat the Cavs by three whole points in that revenge game. They beat the crud out of Orlando twice (yawn), they got a very nice quality win against Indiana, beat Toronto, beat the Knicks by 3 whole points before they discovered Lin, beat a Z Bo less Memphis, beat Charlotte, and barely beat a D Roseless Bulls at home.

I am just not seeing this dominant Celts defense or offense.

Be as condescending as you like. I'll just chuckle, confident in the knowledge that we do better with JO on the court than on the bench because -wait for it- our *defense* is better. Oh, and JO's averaging more blocks per minute than Josh Smith, Howard, Hibbert, Bynum, Gasol, Haywood and Chandler, among others. I think you need to re-evaluate your, um, evaluation. Either he jumps a little better than you think or he does some things (positioning, rotations or the like, even effort) that are as important to defense as running and jumping.

So are you saying you wouldn't trade JON for these guys or that JON gives us a better chance to win than these guys?  Or is there something else that is also important?

I don't think "JO has more blocks than player X" and "I wouldn't trade JO for player X" are remotely similar, but whatever. You first said that any other big was a better option than JO. This isn't the case, because the team performs better with JO in than some of our other bigs. You then mockingly said that JO can't play defense because he can't run or jump. This isn't the case either.

Ok. He has more blocks than them. Is he a better player? Is he a better defender? Is he a better rebounder? Is he running and jumping now?  Did you get the sense that 22 minutes of JON against the Bulls would have led to a better win? What would have gone better? You would have had to deal with his 43% shooting percent. Would Rondo had gone for a triple double with JON in there?

Look at his game log.   http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3120/gamelog;_ylt=AnuOaIBE4RgHorU04HoZ2QMfPKB4

What is the game where he made a really great impact on a quality win?  I see none. I see stuff here and there where he had an ok game and they lost. I see maybe a 0 point 9 reb, 2 block, 3 TO, 6 foul game in 18 minutes or something. I see games he shot very poorly. He didn't go over 2 assists in any game. He got 3 blks twice and 5 once.  His scoring is anemic.

I saw him go for 12 points and 3 rebs in a close win against the Cavs. Varajao owns him.

I'm not seeing it. He's a deep rotational guy now

Oh so its becuz you don't see it? Well the NBA seems to disagree with you. If you are holding your opposition to 90 pts or less and only two other teams is doing this, that means you one of the best defensive teams on the league. Regardless of whos playing or not playing for the opposing team.

I'd say that one of the main reasons you're not seeing it is because you're looking at game logs to figure out when a player who's main contribution is on defense had a good game. Do you think there's a column for that in the box score?
