Supposedly, the Magic have been kicking the tires on a trade with the Knicks that would involve Howard for Amare Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler (although Chandler can't be traded until March 1).

What if the beating the Celtics laid down on the Magic convinced Howard that he couldn't win in Orlando and he shuts the door on re-signing with the team so that they have no choice but to trade him and he ends up with the Lakers or Mavericks?

I do agree with the sentiment on Howard. Would you take him if he wanted to come to Boston, yes. But his demeanor, as you correctly stated 2short, is missing something. Carmelo is a good comparison, as is Deron Williams. They are good players who put up big numbers but they are missing that Durant,KG, Kobe, Rose, Paul, MJ, Magic, Bird gene...

I also agree re Roy Hibbert. Who knows if we can get him, but I like him. Big, tough, physical, a good passer out of the post. JuJuan Johnson, if he develops and with his outside shot, would be a good compliment to Hibbert.

We won a ring with Perkins at center. Hibbert would work, provided we had at least one franchise guy at SF, OG and good surrounding talent.

Why on God's earth the Magic would be interested in a Chandler /Amare swap is beyond me. Just a horrible trade for them.

Amare has an injury history with his knees and is closing in on 30. Chandler is overpaid.

Great trade for the Knicks though. Get rid of Amare, pair Anthony with Howard and sign Deron in the off season. Talk about an easy team to hate...

They'd be better off trading Dwight to Indiana for Hibbert, George, Collison and filler to make the numbers work.

I'm not going to read through 5 pages of dialogue but I will answer the question posed.

Dwight Howard won't come to Boston because he doesn't want to. NBA writers and broadcasters that he likes and favor have made it abundantly clear that there is zero chance of Howard landing in Boston.

The only person who knows why for sure is Howard, but he's not coming here.

Agreed. The only game changer in the sweepstakes could be the Nets panicking that Deron walks, and shipping him to Boston for Rondo. It's a major risk for Ainge, but if history has shown us anything. it's he's not scared to roll the dice.

ummmmm.... because Orlando are gonna be left with nothing if they let him hit free agency. Getting Amare and Chandler would make their fan base feel real good and sell tickets. Also that would be a good team.

They'd have to take salary back in that trade (Hedo and maybe Nelson, Baby, Duhon, or one of the Richardson brothers) to make it work under the CBA.  No chance of adding D-Will at anything close to the max unless they found under the cap team's willing to take on Orlando's roster detritus.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Probably true re Deron, but there might be a way for them to make it work.

Dwight / Reddick & Nelson for Amar'e, Chandler and Douglas woudl work numbers wise. NY has deep pockets, huge revenue - Amnesty Nelson in the off season, trade Reddick to a contender for young guys and a pick.

Regarding Chandler and Amar'e to Orlando, I understand this would help them sell tickets and that Orlando needs to move Howard before he walks in free agency for nothing, but my point was you don't think they could get anything better than than Chandler and Amar'e for Howard? Amar'e will be 31 when next season starts and Chandler is just a role player, like Perkins - but at 15 mil a year...and neither is a franchise player.

I'd approach OKC asking for Perkins, Ibaka, Harden, Aldrich with Mohammed and Cook for filler - for Howard and Ryan Andersen.

Amar'e could be done in two years with his knees and he's just a chucker, like Carmelo.

OKC:
Howard / Anyone
Collison / Andersen
Durant /
Sefalosha / Jackson
Westbrook / Ivey
* They'd need to fill in a couple holes in the off season, but with Howard, Durant and Westbrook, probably have enough for a title this year.

Orlando:
Perkins /
Ibaka / Davis
Turkoglu / Richardson
Harden / Reddick
Nelson / Duhon

You've got a young star in Harden - a great interior defense.

I just think Orlando could get a lot better than Amar'e and Chandler for Howard.
