Yeah, both Wyc and Danny have said it so maybe they know something we don't. Also, I don't think they would define re-signing KG and Ray, as this point in their careers, as two max contracts...
I'm a cap dolt, but I know that if Bass opts out we are dropping roughly $46 million off the books when this season ends. That has to give us some pretty good flex.
With regards to Howard, he'd obviously be nice and if were interested, I'd definitely pursue him. And I still say that for any player who's serious about championships, history and being involved with an elite organization during their working career, Boston has to be attractive. You've got HOF players, a good young core, picks, Doc...
But the clear fact remains we "DO NOT" have to get Howard or Love to win championships. That might make it easier but you can build great teams without them.
As for Orlando, agreed, I don't know how they put up with Otis. Howard in Orlando reminds me of KG in Minnie and James in Cleveland; how can you have a player of that level and not be able to, in 6-7 years time, attract one single available and true "Robin" to play along side him? Someone to play Pippen to them. It's a complete failure of management.
I think one of Ainge's best moves ever was to blow it up and move Walker when he got here. The reason is that while he didn't yet know who would eventually play Robin to Pierce's batman, he knew it "wasn't" Antoine Walker...
Strip it down and build from scratch.
