I think it's good value, and I like it better than the Arron Afflalo deal.  The only concern I have from Denver's end is what their ceiling is going to be as they hand out large contracts to their current core.
Yeah, on its own the contract makes a fair amount of sense. But they could easily end up with just a bunch of second tier players and role players signed long term at this rate.

They certainly are testing the "you can't win without superstars" theory. Lawson, MIller, Afflalo, Gallo, Nene..they're chock full of above average with no elite.

As long as the contracts aren't onerous and the players are young, they'll still be very tradeable if things don't work out.

the only really bad contract the Nuggets have is Harrington and they've got the amnesty in their back pocket for him in a year or two.

So, with Gallo and Afflalo locked up for the next 4-5 years, Wilson Chandler has to be readily available on the market, right? They already have 85 million locked up on the wings in those two guys over the next 4-5 years, there is no way they are going to pay Chandler his market rate. Not only does that mean the Nuggets won't match any reasonable offer sheet this spring/summer, but it also means he is extremely available in a S&T for a playoff piece.

If we are stumbling in March, I would expect Danny to go hard after a nice trade for Chandler, he'd be a nice athletic wing for us moving forward.

You need to commit money to your franchise player before you commit money to your role players. I think we need another core component before he starts making deals like this.

Yeah, Wilson is a guy who will get paid Travis Outlaw type money (or better) this summer, and we don't want to use a bunch of our cap space on a role player like that.

Agree and disagree - in an ideal world you'd get your superstars lined up and then fill out with role players, but at the same time you need a team that will draw superstars. Getting young, promising guys like Rondo, Chandler, Green (in a perfect world) and others like that will entice a superstar to come and put a team in contention. You could sit around and wait for the franchise player to come, but you could find yourself just sitting there for years. At the very least, guys like Chandler, if signed for a reasonable deal, will provide trade value.

If you can get Wilson Chandler at Travis Outlaw money, I don't see how you don't pull the trigger.

EDIT: Screwed up the quoting.

Let's see how they do in the playoffs when they go up against a Kobe, Blake, or Durant who get all the calls.

Just imagine if they still had JR Smith and WChandler; though I suppose it would have been impossible to sign them along with Affalolo and Nene.

chandler has always impressed me, a small forward built like a power forward. based on his play against the c's i think he is extremely strong and likes to d up. i'd say he could easily fill the swing forward role going forward.

love to have him on the c's

Ken Berger: The Nuggets and Danilo Gallinari have agreed to a four-year, $42 million extension, source tells @CBSSports. Twitter

I have always liked his game. He doesn't mind playing D. Exceptional shooter. And at 23 he still has upside. Is 10.5 mill a year a good deal for Gallo?

Thoughts?

Sounds like a good deal to me. He's a young guy getting better who consistently puts up 15+pts a game.

I watched a little bit of that Denver Nuggets "The Association" show on NBA TV last night.  I love George Karl's attitude about his team and trying to win without the super star power.

I'll always root for the non star driven teams to win in this league.

Gallo was a good signing, and I wish the Nuggets well.
