If he accepts the qualifying offer, then Love basically has to play for the Wolves for the entire season, can't be traded, and then enters unrestricted free agency where Minnesota can lose him without compensation, though, it is still possible they could sign and trade him then as well. But that is no guarantee though Minnesota could guarantee getting something back this year as they still have right of first refusal and could force the situation.Yeah, but even if they S&T'd him as an unrestricted FA, they're looking at considerably less coming back, and that's 100% certain. They lack nearly all the leverage in that situation. They might just want to let him get a max offer from another team and then match it immediately. His own statements could just be manuevering to put pressure on them to step up and just offer a Derek Rose type deal instead of that.If he's unrestricted though they can't match with any guarantee they'll retain his services. That's why if he won't sign a deal as a RFA, they ought to trade his butt.

He doesn't want to lose out on 20-30 million by having to sign an offer sheet. If he signs the QO they can't trade him without his consent, so if it goes that far they've already screwed things up badly.
