Ugh.  Best low-cost center on the market.
Really? Curry has played 75 minutes over the last 3 seasons. Guy's cooked.

Yeah...the last 3 years he played a total of like 3 games.  But the year before that, he put up 20/7.  Now he's lost the extra weight (working out with Tim Glover), and will be trying to prove himself.  At 28 or whatever he is, I wouldnt count him out before seeing him.

The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

If this and Battier are true GREAT job by Pat Riley while danny continues to land a deal that seems like the sort to gut our team
Miami isn't going to need much at center with the rest of team.  Add a vet min guard who can bring the ball up and play some d and they are ready.

I agree nice moves by Pat Riley, but I don't know that I agree with your take on what Danny has been doing.

Miami was a contender last year, and will continue to be a contender for years. They really only need to tinker around the edges.

Boston is in a very different situation. The window on the Big Three is closing very quickly, and I think it is really good business for Danny to be searching for younger All-Star talent. It isn't available all that often, and so you have to pounce when it is (if you are in rebuild, or close to rebuild -- Boston is in close to rebuild territory).
ainge's best case scenario (in his mind) we get paul and a big and can compete for title
worst case scenario is we have no moves and all the solid subs are signed elsewhere, he divides team with his everyone is trade bait philosophy
middle ground is we give up WAY to much to get paul who doesn't help us that much and rondo ends up awesome

Shane Battier is a very slight upgrade over James Jones. Not enough to be terribly worrisome, but a positive move on their part. Eddy Curry is a high-risk signing, with the slight possibility of high reward of he gets back to his New York form. I just don't see that happening, though ... if he had only missed 1 year because of injury I'd call it a good signing, but he has basically missed 2 entire years and most of a third. Seems like a "Ah, screw it, let's see what happens" move by Riley. They'd get to the ECF again even if Eddy Curry eats Spoelstra.

It's not like Curry regressed because of a chronic injury.  The guy was just too lazy and out of shape.  He's supposedly dropped over 50 pounds this year working out with Tim Glover, and is back to his NY playing weight.  At 28 years old, I dont see any reason to say he couldnt be back to where he was.  His game wasn't even based on athleticism before.  Just strength and a good touch around the hoop.

I'd call any minimum deal extremely low risk.  If Curry doesn't work out, simply cut him.

  • Rondo = Good
As if the Heat wasn't dislikeable enough.

It's like they sat in a room and said "Well we just brought in Shane Battier.  That might gain us a modicum of respectability and we just can't have that"

"Yeah! We gotta have people throw up at the idea of playing us. It's a huge advantage"

"Let's get Curry".

"Problem solved"

heheh.  tp
