Height is valuable. You can't practice height.

He is young. For those who say all he can do is dunk, block and rebound -- blocking and rebounding is already pretty substantial. The ability to finish emphatically at the rim is pretty good too.

The guy is still young for the NBA so there is no reason to believe he will get any worse. And he might make life a lot easier for Griffin. 8 million a year will be a bargain in 2 years if he continues developing. There needs to be risk on both sides for a 5 year contract for a young center.

What is interesting to me, who has railed Danny in the past for passing on Jordan in favor of El Busto from New Mexico (J R Giddens), is,  had we drafted Jordan, and Danny was facing this same dilemma, how would he and the fan base now feel. We wouldnt give it to Perk, would we have been willing to give it to Jordan? And for that matter would we feel differently about the Perkins trade. Lot of hypotheticals I realize but I love me an athletic big!

Because $8million doesn't get you top 5.

$8 million gets you middle of the pack. Somewhere between #12 and #18.

Deandre jordan isnt even within the #12 - #18 band. They'll regret making this offer.
Agreed -- off the top of my head, I would think I have D.Jordan somewhere in low to mid 20s.

At his current ability, joining a team to play a starting role and somewhere between 28-32 minutes a night, I would rate D.Jordan at about $6 million per annum.

That said, he is 23 and not a finished product. He is clearly still developing and you will have to pay a certain amount for potential. And I think a 5 year $40 million offer is fair.

Of the top of your head, what 25 other centers are better than him? lol.  More appropriately, what 25 (or even 10) other centers do you think will be better than him over the next 5 years?

If he got full starting minutes (32-36) and didnt get any better than he is now, he'd be right around a double double, with over 2 blocks a game, and a fg% that would be top 5 the league.  What player making 6 million a year is doing that?

I dont think a perkins comparison is even fair to Deandre.  People say Perkins "proved" he was an elite defender, but was he that elite before the big 3 came?  Was he elite last year in OKC?  I think it's highly possible that next year will be a breakout year for Jordan, while Perkins continues to regress to the player he was in 2006...an average player, with sub par athleticism and limited offensive capabilities, whose size and experience is his key selling point.

Everyone looks better next to KG on defense.  Some guys have not looked good but they would have looked worse without him I wager.
