Rumor that doesn't make any sense: Celts looking "very hard" at Tyson Chander

Signing him means we have no shot in next years Free Agency, Howard or not we have to save our cap space and not waste it.

Maybe if he agrees to a vet minimum then of course I would take him.

What?? Chandler is an NBA champion and you would only sign him to a veteran minimum contract???!!

And since when was it a foregone conclusion that Howard was going to sign in Boston? I think it's very foolish to not look into signing good players just for the chance of landing a really good free agent.

But it is not a guarantee that the Celtics WON'T sign Howard....but if we sign a guy like Chandler to a deal, the Celts are guaranteeing that they won't sign Howard not even giving them a chance at signing a franchise player

Glen Davis (sign and trade), Avery Bradley, Marquis Daniels Trade Exception for Tyson Chandler.
Why Dallas does it?
1) They need a young combo guard with upside for the future. Jason Kidd is on the verge of retiring. Terry is getting old. Beaubois has had two foot surgeries. J.J. Barea, Caron Butler, Stevenson are all free agents.
2) They can use a backup Power-forward/Center. They can’t afford to keep Dirk, Haywood and Chandler. They can amnesty Haywood, but they would still have to pay a lot of money to keep Chandler and not have a quality big for backup.
3) They really need to shed salary fast with the new CBA. They can shed 4-5 million this way. While keeping the amnesty for Haywood for future years.

Celtics
1) They need a center. Tyson Chandler is a pretty good center.

But wait Danny is not done...

Danny trades Tyson Chandler, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett Clippers pick, 2 future first rounders and a couple of second rounders for Dwight Howard and Gilbert Arenas.

Orlando gets:
1) 30+ Million in expiring contracts of Ray and KG to shed salary.
2) Getting rid of one of the worst contracts in history.
3) They will have a nice veteran core and several picks to rebuild on the fly. 
4) They can amnesty Turkoglu and get rid of their other horrible contract.

Boston gets:
1) Dwight Howard.
2) They can Amnesty Gilbert Arenas, fall under the cap and become a player in free agency. 
3) They sign Carl Landry and Jamal Crawford. 

Boston will look like:
Rondo - West
Crawford - E'Twaun Moore
Pierce - Green
Landry - JaJuan Johnson
Howard - Jermaine O'Neal

Orlando will look like:
Jameer Nelson - Duhon
Ray Allen - JJ Reddick
Hedo Turkoglu - Quentin Richardson
Kevin Garnett - Brandon Bass - Ryan Anderson
Tyson Chandler - Earl Clark

Dwight moves to a bigger market with a pass first, all-star, point guard, a good coach, a great franchise with a history of winning, and A hall of famer. 

Every one is happy... except Ray and KG.

A couple technical issues:

1.  Trade exceptions can't be combined with players or other trade exceptions in a deal.  Marquis' trade exception can only be used to bring back a player earning approximately $2.4 million or less;

2.  There's no guarantee that the amnesty clause will be able to be used on players acquired via trade.

That's without getting into issues of whether it makes sense to trade KG / Ray, whether the salaries "match", whether we'd have enough cap space to sign both Crawford and Landry, etc.

Chandler is only 29 man, and we could do with a Big name at Center

I would be buzzing if the signing were to happen i just dont think it will. Cuban is going to be fighting very hard to keep hold of Chandler, especially after last season's performances

Is there even much chance we will sign Howard to begin with?   You take what you can get, when you can get it.  People assume DH will want to come here.  NYC did the same thing with LeBron and they didn't sign him.

Earlier tonight on NBATV's primetime show called "Gametime," host Matt Winer reeled off a Top 5 list of questions to NBA reporter David Aldridge.  The 4th item on the list (in ascending order) asked about two free agents from the world champion Dallas Mavericks: Tyson Chandler and Caron Butler.

Without being prodded to name teams, Aldridge described how the Celtics don't have many players signed (true), are in desperate need for a center (no offense, Jermaine) and that they are "looking very hard at Tyson Chandler."

Seems like another example of a national broadcaster not understanding the whole picture and simply jumping to conclusions.  Still, one would think with all the talk about financial restrictions, people could figure this one out. 

Maybe they could work a sign and trade.  Still think it's a long shot though. 

See, I'd love to dismiss this, but this is David Aldridge we're talking about.  He doesn't seem to make stuff up.  I don't know how realistic it is, but I believe it has been discussed at some level.

I've never known Aldridge to be full of BS. If Ainge & Co. are worth their salt, of COURSE they're going to "look very hard" at Chandler; that's their job. Whether Chandler is a realistic target is another question, but wanting him is a no-brainer. And let's remember that it COULD happen -- IF Boston wants to part with one of the Big Three.

Just read on ESPN.com in Adande's latest article than in fact the amnesty clause cannot be used on players received via trade.

Can't say I'm really a fan of that; as Adande points out, it would have been nice to see some teams without any toxic contracts rewarded with the ability to take advantage of teams that have multiple bad contracts and might make lopsided trades to get out of them.
