BOS gets: Jason Thompson

SAC gets: Boston's 2012 first rounder (and maybe cash considerations)

Since the Kings traded for JJ Hickson right before the lockout, it shows that they clearly don't think Thompson is part of their future and are looking for a frontcourt of Hickson/Cousins. Thompson would be a young big man who can play the 4 and the 5. This would be a lot better than getting a big man for the vet min with little upside like Joel Pryzbilla or Aaron Gray. Thompson could actually contribute this season and after that. He's on the books for $3M this year and is a RFA after that, so he isn't crapping on our cap space and depending on how he plays could be part of our future.

The only real downside is that we give up our draft pick for a stacked draft class, but with the way things are looking, shortened season and all, the Clippers may just surprise everyone and get a decent record. Enough to push them out of the top 10 and let us have their pick.

Thoughts?

I would think they would also want a player with the pick. I dont know who we would have to offer or who they would want. I would let Davis go in a trade for Thompson. I dont think I would let Davis and a first rounder go in a trade for Thompson though.

Sac would want more then a 2nd rounder, even in a deep draft.

2nd rounders are still the throw in picks in most player trades.

I said a first rounder, not a 2nd rounder

Yeah the only player we would likely be able to give is Avery Bradley.

I think they'd consider parting with him for a mid-first round pick. Something in that #13 to #19 range. The Celtics pick would be too low. Needs more incentive.

I believe Sacramento wants to keep both (Cousins and Hickson start with Thompson backing both up off the bench).  If they got blown away by an offer they would move Thompson, but the C's pick is not going to blow them away.

Also, Cousins, Hickson, Thompson and little used Hassan Whiteside are the only 4/5's on their roster.  In otherwords, they need big men and I don't think we have anything of value unless Davis goes there in a sign and trade.  Davis and our 1st for Thompson they would do, but I'm not sure we would.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

perhaps as a S&T of BBD or for the lesser of the Clippers/Boston pick in the year the C's get to collect from the Clippers.

use the Hickson acquisition as an argument to lower Thompson's trade value-->if JT was that great, they wouldn't have picked up Hickson.

They shopped him pretty hard last year, and he's going into the last year of his deal.  I could see the Kings moving him for a #1.

Yeah, I think its reasonable.

I am not a big Thompson fan though.  I think he is Mark Blount with less attitude...but also less defensive ability.

If you can get him for a late first round pick, then its worth a shot I suppose...but then again, that 2012 draft could be loaded, and the C's pick might be closer to the middle of the round, so that might be tough to give up.

I can't see it being above 22.

Obviously its early to tell, but they were at 20 last year.  So, I think it is not a huge leap.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Never been impressed with Thompson whatsoever.
Him and the Israeli guy were both way overrated by the Kings.
But to answer your question, yes, they would take the deal.

I would never give up a first rounder for Thompson though-particularly in the 2012 stacked draft.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Yeah Thompson was pretty decent in his first season. I wouldn't mind him in Boston at all.

I really want Kwame Brown in Celtic Green, I think he was pretty decent last season and I think playing with KG + those guys he will improve a little more

Kwame for the Minimum!

Jason Thompson aint worth a 1st round pick he's regressed since his rookie year we might be able to aquire him for a 2nd round pick nd maybe E'Twuan Moore (even tho I wanna see wat he's about)

I actually like the defense and rebounding of Joel Pryzbilla and would gladly take him for the minimum if healthy.
