Depends on Baby. If we end up with another center and Baby, perhaps we don't really need Murphy. However, if Baby walks, I'd certainly be interested to see if Murphy could backup KG.
Even if Baby stays, at the minimum, Murphy couldn't hurt.
There is no way Murphy is going to be a minimum contract player.
Agree that Murph is going to get more than the vet min somewhere. Obviously he was out of basketball shape last year, since NJN sent him home. It showed, and to make matters worse he got injured during his stint with the C's.
Not sure how you can say he's garbage based on the circumstances of last year. This guy has been a solid player throughout his career and not some flash in the pan who had it going for a season or two. Looking back at the past 4 years he's probably the most reliable and consistent player career wise to be on our bench.
Again, I wouldn't say "obviously." The guy hasn't played good basketball for over a year. And to complicate matters, money will likely be much more scarce under the new CBA. If that happens, guys who were 10 million dollar guys, will become MLE guys (if it even exists), MLE guys will become 2-3 million dollar guys, and guys who usually would fetch over the minimum will become minimum guys.
I think we may be able to retain Murphy at the minimum.
However, if I'm Troy, I don't do that unless Baby walks. Otherwise, it's likely going to be a repeat of last season with his butt on the bench every game.
