What if Enes Kanter isn't there with the fifth pick?

Why doesn't Minnesota talk to Utah about swapping their second for Utah's third? If Minnesota is convinced that the logical player based on need is Kanter, then Utah is the team to trade down with as opposed to Toronto.

In my opinion, I wouldn't trade DeMar DeRozan if it's Toronto intention to trade Andrea Bargnani.  Besides, somebody must be the leading scorer for that team after you trade Bargnani and DeRozan and Ed Davis are a nice young tandem to build on.  Not to mention, the emergence of Jerryd Bayless this season who could shift over to shooting guard next season if you do decide to trade DeRozan.  Otherwise, I expect Toronto to attempt to trade Andrea Bargnani and Jose Calderon before DeMar DeRozan if any one of their players is traded this off-season.

As far as Minnesota and Utah are concern, the swap makes sense.  Utah needs to replace impending free agents Andrei Kirilenko and CJ Miles (team option), so drafting Derrick Williams with the second pick is a good start.  Gordon Hayward is another option at small forward if he isn't moved to shooting guard.  For Minnesota, they draft a potential starting center in Kanter.  If they desire to trade Jonny Flynn for shooting guard help, I would consider Carlos Delfino who can play guard as well.  The trade works on ESPN Trade Machine.

Quote
Recent reports state the Timberwolves are in discussion with the Toronto Raptors regarding a deal which would send Jonny Flynn and the number two pick to Toronto for guard DeMar DeRozan and the number five selection. While the Timberwolves should continue their due diligence to see if they are able to get more from their assets than only DeRozan, if this is the best they can do, they should think long and hard about it.

I think the reason that Minny is interested in trading the pick is that Derrick Williams won't be available, he'll have been picked by Cleveland already.

Minny doesn't want another PG (if anything they want to get rid of PGs), so they are willing to trade the pick.

Great trade for Toronto. D.Williams gives them a player with star potential.

Lousy deal for Minnesota. DeRozan hasn't shown much in his first two years. He has an awful lot of work to do. Not worth losing Derrick Williams over him.

What can Utah offer Minnesota in a trade?

They likely won't be willing to part with Millsap, Favors, G.Hayward or D.Harris. Minny wouldn't be interested in Big Al even if Utah was willing to trade him on. Not a lot of quality on their roster outside of those players.

A heavily protected future first round pick, perhaps?

Minnesota making a trade makes sense because depending on who is the number one pick, they really do not need another PF or another PG. It makes more sense for them to trade the pick Utah's way or to trade the pick in a package for a difference making player. Trading below number three is a move that has Kahn written all over it.

Rubio                Ridnour
DeRozan          Webster
Beasley             Wes Johnson
Love                  Randolph
McGee              Tolliver/Millicic

= The 2010-2011 Memphis Grizzlies or better. Seriously, if they can get some more veteran leadership on that squad and they're healthy i see them being a 6 or 7 seed in the playoffs next year

A swapping of their first round pick between Minnesota and Toronto could backfire on Minnesota.  I say this since Utah can use a center too if they decide to trade Al Jefferson who isn't a true center anyways.  And I would prefer to start Paul Millsap at power forward as opposed to trading him and moving Jefferson to forward.  I mean you've to like Millsap's production versus his salary if you're Utah.  That is to say, players such as, Millsap and Andray Blatche, equal good value for what they're earning a year compared to someone like Elton Brand or Carlos Boozer.

I think DeRozan is going to be very good.
He fits in perfectly with Rubio and Beasley on a running team. Love could get every rebound outlet and go.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

While I do like the trade and dont like them picking at 2 because they already have PG and Pf depth, I definitely dont see them being the Grizzlies of next year. Too young, terrible defense. I mean look at that line up. Even if they're healthy they go back to the lottery next year.

No way.  Just no way.

Not even Minnesota would do something this stupid...plus they're rumored to be sending this pick to half of the teams in the league

Yeah I agree they don't have the quality throughout there roster to contend for a playoff spot.

Especially when their best player is Kevin Love.

Minny need veterans to go along with all their youth not draft picks by trading down. let send them K G/ or Ray and see what we can put together staring with their 2 first round picks this year. a second next year and players to round out the deal.
