Most important thing, whether you do it yourself or take it to a professional framer, (which would be my recommendation - my Mom and Sis are both artists, so they do my framing for me): Make sure it's sealed from moisture ... moisture and dust are the number one enemy, especially if you're in a climate like New England's.
Also, there's nothing that makes it look better than it's own "pin-spot" shining it's light on it ... whatever the background or wallpaper, it should be fairly neutral in color, and the spot-light, (or track light), will make it stand out even more! Congrats on the nice acquisition ... you should share a pic with us when it's done and hung.
