Neither of them is getting traded here. There's no way Chris Paul is signing an extension here if we trade Rondo and our pick unless he's colluding with Howard to team up in Boston. The Big 3 are going to retire soon and he could be stuck with Hornets 2.0

IMO it makes more sense to recruit Dwight Howard to sign here as a free agent (preferably after learning to watch those elbows). Rondo is signed on a reasonable contract meaning more flexibility to build a good roster. Then we have our Clippers pick and maybe Green and Bradley which is a nice young core.

Doesn't matter how dominant a player is you win with a team in the playoffs so I'm not interested in trading Rondo for Paul. Paul is not going to keep us contending on his own. Rondo and Howard (abysmal free throw shooting and all) could keep us elite. It's pipe dream but stranger things have happened.
jeez just about word for word
ainge has our pg of the future in a good deal that doesn't kill us, cap room coming to go after howard (maybe why perk was moved) and a good draft pick coming up and a young athletic sf in green

Here is my fantasy Chris Paul and Dwight Howard 3 team trade.  With Chris Paul's injury concerns and maybe of a down season I think it could be almost of a straight up deal with Rondo.  I think NO would love to cut as much salary as possible.   Orlando, if rumors are true, would like a starting caliber center in return like a Lopez or Bynum along with picks.   So how about this?

New Orleans
Send
Chris Paul $14.9M, Emaka Okafer $11.5M
Receive
Rajon Rondo $9.1M, A. Bradley $1.4M, Marquis Daniels $2.4M trade exception, Erden and Harongody total about $1M trade exception, Gortat $6.3M trade exception, R Lewis $1.8M trade exception

Orlando
Send
Dwight Howard $16.6M, Gortat $6.3M trade exception, R Lewis $1.8M trade exception
Receive
Okafer $11.5M, Jeff Green, $4.5M, J. O'Neal $5.8M, maybe a S & T with Davis , Clippers first round pick, 1 or 2 more of our own picks.

Boston
Send
Rondo $9.1M, Daniels, Erden, Harongody trade exceptions $3.4M, Bradley $1.4M, Green $4.5M, J. O'Neal $5.8M, possibly Davis, 2 or 3 draft picks including the Clippers pick.
Receive
Dwight Howard $16.6M, Chris Paul $14.9M

NO would save roughly $10M in those trade exceptions and I'm heard they are desperate to cut salary.  They get out of Okafer's 4 remaining years at a steep price.  They get a comparable player to Paul in Rondo as well as our first rounder last year in Bradley.

Orlando would get a solid starting center under contract for another 4 years and some nice young players in Green, Davis, that Clippers pick, maybe some of our own, an expiring contract in J O'Neal.  I don't know if they could do that much better dealing with NJ or the Lakers.

Trade exceptions can't be combined to take back a player; 100% of the player's incoming salary must fit under one (and only one) of your exceptions.

I'M THE SILVERBACK GORILLA IN THIS MOTHER... AND DON'T NONE OF YA'LL EVER FORGET IT!

KP / Giannis / Turkuglu / Jrue / Curry
Sabonis / Brand / A. Thompson / Oladipo / Brunson
Jordan / Bowen

Well I guess it will have to remain a fantasy trade idea then.   :-\

Trying to somehow trade Rondo for Paul would be a franchise killer.  As good as CP is, he's not much better then Rondo.  Factor in that the C's would have to give up Rondo and probably Jeff Green will some picks.  And the fact that it would cost twice as much money for Paul then Rondo so you have less to spend on the rest of your roster would destroy the winning momentum they've created the last four years.

I feel the same way about trying to trade for Howard.  I believe if Orlando decides they have to trade him next year, it'll only work with the Lakers in a deal for Bynum.  Howard would be great to sign after 2012 if one of the big 3 retire to free up some money.  That will all depend on what Howard wants from his career tho.  Does he just want max money and try to win on his own or is he willing to make a bit less and win championships.  I believe the C's will be the favorite if he chooses the latter.  I think he really respects Doc and Danny and the way the franchise has turned and reshaped the nba over the last 4 years.

Lets also not forget, Phil Jackson is retiring after this season and the lakers will look a lot worse next year without him and lesson players opinion of playing for them.
