  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
This pertains to this season because of Rondo's current form slump and what looks like a lack of motivation. (for whatever reason- it's  been debated in however many other forum topics.)

I've thought about this a bit with the idea being that Danny is going after Dwight Howard 100% like every other GM.
So, what will Danny Ainge's top priority be in the off season, with 2 major questions/dilemmas.
1) Does he keep Rondo or has he decided to keep Rondo no matter what happens this season to pair him with Dwight...?
2)Do we need a shooting PG to complement Howard. ie: trade for Chris Paul to go with Dwight.
3) related to question 1...If we get knocked out in the 2nd round or ECF and Rondo plays poorly, does Ainge consider a trade like this given Chris Pauls injury woes?

I read a good article about this on Bleacher Report which made me bring up this topic.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

If everything falls into place just as described in the article, then I'm all for it. That would be a Celtic dynasty for sure.

I would probably rather Deron Williams for the long term.
But so would the Nets, and to get Williams would result in a much tougher trade for the Celtics( lose more valuable pieces).
I'm not sure I'd rather CP3 than Rondo because of his injury problems. Cp3 reminds me of Wade in the sense that every time I watch him he moves like an old man a lot of the time and seems on the brink of a huge injury.

We can only hope so. A starting lineup of Paul, Allen, Pierce, Garnett, and Howard is so good it's silly.

If Paul is available at the deadline next year, even if Rondo plays great in the playoffs, he will be traded for Paul. Paul is simply a better player, and he can lure Howard here.

The only thing that concerns me is Paul's injury trouble the past couple years.

Slump?!? You saw last night's game, right? 22 points, 8 assists, 4 rebounds ... I'd say that ends the "slump" talk, at least for now. ;)

Yeah, he played better last night. But he had 1 more shot attempted than Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett combined. The Celtics are never going to win that way--guaranteed.

First of all it's pretty ridiculous to complain that someone who's hitting 70% or more of his shots took too many shots. Secondly, KG didn't play much, did he?

Last night Ray and KG looked like the epitome of the Celtics' back-to-back woes. Can't blame Rondo for that.

Rondo looked like an nba player teamed with a bunch of old timers last night
wait that is almost what we have
Seriously rondo looked very good, he's played better but his better level is pretty amazing.  Ray didn't get shots his defense wasn't that good.  KG had foul trouble and played a subpar game.  The bench looked disfunctional

I'd say if people are still blaming rondo they should look elsewhere

Wow

People asking for Rondo to be traded.

It isn't even playoff time yet.

Seriously? After the way he played last night?

And all signals are pointing towards Howard going to LA, why would he come to Boston when he hates Boston and it's cold weather (plus no music industry like in LA to practice his "music skills").
Celtics' turn on switch for the playoffs: the last bastion of hope for battered Celtic fans.

Not sure how many people are 'asking' for him to be traded.
The point of interest is whether or not Danny Ainge would make a move like this if Rondo doesn't show up for playoffs.

I guess another question is if you could lock Dwight Howard up for 4 years but had to trade Rondo to get Chris Paul in order to get Howard here... would you do it?
I love Rondo but I think I would. I know Ainge would.

Of course Rondo was fantastic last night but if they felt they could get one or two more runs at the flag with:
KG
Ray
PP
Dwight
CP3 or Deron Williams I think they would go for it because they can rebuild for another 3-4 year plan once the big 3 are gone.
Rondo is the Hornets best replacement for CP3 because he'd be locked into a contract and would be the best available PG they could get their hands on (most likely).

Another one I looked at was putting Rondo+ Green back with Perkins and Durant and us getting Westbrook and Sefalosia.

You forgot to include in the numbers the one ticked off shooting guard who only took 4 shots.

As far as CP3 goes...his knee problems may mean his best days are behind him.  No way I would make that deal.

The NBA isn't going to trade the franchise player of a team they are trying to sell

  • Rondo = Good
We wouldn't have the draft picks or high level prospects to make a deal for Chris Paul happen.  Rondo is just not enough, and we really don't have anything else to offer.

Honestly, the picture that the article paints is a nice one, but it's a pipe dream.  I don't buy that the Celtics are as great a destination in player's eyes as the article claims, and I'm not so sure Chris Paul or Dwight Howard won't stay put.
