In the past few days, we've all read some well thought out pieces both against and in favor of the Perk trade. I'm still not sure how I feel, but I think Danny has earned the benefit of the doubt here.

That being said, I'm a little surprised no one has asked this question: how in the world was everyone caught so off-guard by this deal? We heard trade speculation on an hourly basis leading up to the deadline. With a deal this big and this significant involving a starter for the 2nd best team in the league, they had to have been discussing it for several days - if not longer - leading up to the deadline. Yet there were never any links to Jeff Green, never any speculation that Perk could be moved, etc.

Maybe I missed something, but likewise, no one gave any indication that the Deron Williams deal was even being discussed, let alone about to happen.

Is it just me, or is that a complete joke? These guys bill themselves as NBA insiders, and yet they had no idea that two of the biggest deals of the season were about to go down.

The Boston media isn't completely innocent either. As a Celtic fan, I think their coverage of the Celtics key injuries has been horrible for several years now. I'm thinking specifically of KG two years ago, and Shaq, Perk and JO this year. When the team's story changes out of the blue, it seems like the media just sits there and takes it. We'll get one quote from Danny or Doc on a player's status, and then two weeks later we'll get another quote that completely contradicts the first. However, there will be no follow up information or clarification added.

Am I alone here, are are you guys extremely frustrated by that as well?

I won't say that I'm frustrated by the whole process but I was definitely caught offguard by the move.

I think a lot of people felt that the Celtics were gonna make a run with what they had and only make minor moves to tighten up their depth via small trades or buyouts.  I certainly didn't anticipate that they'd be moving one of their starters in the middle of a playoff push where they'll battling for a #1 seed in the East and for, all intents & purposes, had to be considered the favorite or near-favorite to win the NBA title.  Rarely do you see teams in that situation make such a drastic move.  That's what caught us offguard.

It sounds like the Celtics front office was, surprisingly, able to keep this hush-hush which is simply amazing, IMO, in this time and age of the internet and twitter.

I get what you're saying - but leaks to the media just tend to mess things up for all concerned.

Particularly big trades like Deron's - just compare the 'Melo circus and all the false reports to the clean "surprise" deal.

They learned their lesson after the Ray Allen circus last year.

I have a feeling that Danny made this move only after he came up empty on all other trades...it may have been a last hour sort of trade.

The story about the Deron Williams-trade is, that it was put together in less than 24 hours (according to Bill Simmons). It even caught Deron Williams off guard. Maybe the story is the same with the Celtics trade, since it came so close to the deadline, and all involved players seemed in shock.

Hafta give a Tommy Point for that good call. Thankfully that's a distant memory now.

I agree with most of you that it's in the front office's best interest to keep things close to the vest, and I'm fine with that. But then why do we even pay any attention to these so-called insiders? They were totally in the dark regarding two of the biggest three deals this season. That's sad.

And I'm still curious how you guys feel regarding the local media's coverage of Celtic injuries. Are you guys as frustrated as I am?

Outside of Forsberg, I've been pretty disappointed by the coverage of the Cs this year.  Julian Benbow can't hold a candle to Marc Spears, that's for sure, and Bulpett and Murphy have almost seemed to be mailing it in this year.

Hey everyone!  Danny Ainge here...  Just checkin' in to let everyone know that I'm going to bathroom, and while there I'm going to be mulling over some potential buyout signings.

Didn't want anyone to get caught off guard...

You think OKC is the 2nd best team in the league? Because we got TWO of their starters.

i think there's so much going on that owners don't ever leak to the media. it's just a few stories that pop up anyway. I'm sure DA had multiple options and discuss all the players (even Rondo) except those talks never go very far.

Even though the Thunder were hoping to get Perkins for a while, they had to keep it tight because of the popularity of the players involved. Durant and Green are very tight and Perk and Rondo are very tight, Nate is class clown; but would have been problematic to have it leaked.
