What gives you the impression he will be bought out?  He already refused an $18m (out of $25) buyout that would also have allowed him to go to the team of his choice.

But I guess something has to give in DET.  I'm thinking the coach will be fired or resign.

He rejected $18 mil?  Wow!  He wasn't confident that he could make $7 mil in 2 years of NBA action?

wow, it's pretty tough to turn down 18 million to just leave. No way he gets bought out if that's the case. Total lack of proffesionalism from both the coach and players in detroit right now. I would suspend all of them without pay until they honor their deals and suck it up.

I expect Dumars to ask for Kuester's resignation after tonight, and suspensions/fines for each of the players involved in the protest.

I wonder if Dumars might wait until after March 1 to release guys like Wilcox and McGrady, who are expiring contracts, and likely won't be back with the club next year. It might damage Dumars' standing around the league with player agents, but it would send a pretty strong message.

What kind of message does it send to fire the coach (which is what you are really saying) on the heels of this kind of insubordination?  Bad idea.

Reports were that Dumars had agreed to fire Kuester before the All-Star break, which is what prevented these same players from organizing an earlier protest.

Kuester has been there for nearly two seasons, and has consistently baffled players with strange and inconsistent lineups and a lack of communication. This isn't a new development: he lost this team weeks ago. There needs to be a change.

I usually think that the players are idiots when they do this kind of stuff, but in my opinion the culprit here is Kuester since he has really screwed everyone over.

I don't know, but for a guy like Rip who has always been a team player, when Iverson came here, he went to the bench without causing much of a fuss even though Iverson was playing like crap and Stuckey was playing like crap.

Then you get to this year, and you sit him for a full month+? On the pretense of "we're trying to figure out lineups"? Are you kidding me? When all we see from the outside is Detroit looking to trade him, and maybe because of that not play him to keep him from injury. So I don't know if Kuester has instructions from above or his doing this by his own stupidity, but he has been a cancer on that team and it needs to be cut.

I think a suspension is more likely than a buyout.  

Of course, it's better for us if he isn't bought out, since Woj says he's looking to join Chicago.

Roy, I have a question and agree with both statements.

1. Hamilton should be suspended. What he did sounds like rank insubordination to me. What does the CBA allow in terms of suspension by a team and partial salary forfeiture?

Detroit and Dumars should take a stand. Maybe they are hoping Kuester resigns in the wake of all this and it's an easy out for them. Personally, I suspend and fine Hamilton as an example to the younguns. I've lost respect for Dumars here.

Exactly.  Why would they reward him with a buyout?

And even if he does, he's not coming here.  That's what people need to realize.  Even before we got Jeff Green, the best he could've hoped for would be to backup Pierce and Allen.  Now, he'd be stuck playing the 10-15 mpg that Ray doesn't play.  There's zero chance he's going to do that when he could start in Chicago. 

And people need to realize that the same logic extends to pretty much every other position except center.  Few good players are going to want to come play the 10-15 mpg (and let's face it, it's probably even less than that as our 1-4 starters will likely play 35-40 mpg in the playoffs, this notion that any of them are going to play 32 mpg when Doc routinely plays them more than that in the regular season is silly). 

  Anybody that signs with us must know it's a temporary thing. A lot of players might be willing to stick it out for a solid chance at winning a title.
