With Perk out of the picture and the C's able to retain Green for next year with the qualifying offer, is it a guarantee that BBD is back now ?  BBD is pretty valuable to this team as he can play 2 positions , but will he be worth signing now that we have Green here ( hopefully long term if he plays up to his abilities)

The reason why signing BBD makes sense because Orlando might be shopping Dwight Howard next year at the deadline

A package of Bradley, Green, Lac 2012 1st rd pick an additional 1st round pick and clevelands 2nd round pick(which will likely be at the beginning of the second round)IMO would probably be a very strong offer for Howard.

So if you sign Bbd you would still have talent around Dwight Howard. I think BBD would get even better if he was playing next to Dwight.

And even if we don't trade Green, BBD is a PF/C while Green is a SF/PF, so I think the smart thing to do would be to sign BBD this off-season , unless of course some team offers him 9 or 10 mil a year.

Any one know how much we can offer BBD for an extension now?

Can an extension be done now, and if so are we limited to a prescribed increase over his current salary as we were with Perk?

No way, remember Green is a RFA too. There could be another team that signs him to an offer sheet. Resigning Davis is not a lock by any means.

probably not, we've given up until 2012.  We're going to get some minimum guys and 1 year contracts, thats it

I understand Green has a qualifying offer on his contract for next season. I see a lot of posters saying how he will probably be on the team next year. Can someone please explain his contract situation in layman's terms? Can another team offer Green a longer deal? Why would he accept, what is it, a little less than 6 million, all the while sacrificing long term security? Does he even have a choice? Or must he play on the team next year for the slotted amount? If not, I can't see the Celtics paying him what he'll want.

I'm not so sure.

While on one hand we need him even more for next year, on the other, with Green now on board, the C's now have 3 players (Green, Pierce, and Rondo) that are going to have to be on the books in the summer of 2012 when the make a run at Howard or someone else.

And keep in mind that though Green himself expires in 2012, his nearly 6 million dollar cap-hold will stay on the cap unless the C's renounce him, which will take away their ability to use their Bird Rights to re-sign him.

So add Rondo's 11 million, Pierce's near-17 million, another 6 million for Green, and you're already at 34 million, and that's assuming the C's have no one else on the roster.

How much can we actually commit to BBD?  Well, it depends on the cap.  Right now it's in the mid-50s; however, what happens if under the new CBA it drops to 50 or even 45 million?  All of the sudden having Baby on the books potentially prevents us from making a run at a big name free agent and/or keeping Jeff Green (if we are then forced to renounce him to get that big name free agent).

So, I'd be careful.  I'd much rather see Danny overpay him this summer for 1 year, than lock him up long term.

Yes we must resign BBD to a moderate contract, let's hope they don't do like Posey or TA. As for Green he should take the QO, but there's chris wallace around the corner wanting to screw us yet again, look what he did now during the trade deadline, but maybe we could s&t for Oj Mayo incase he did something stupid.
But the package you mentioned willnot be enough to Orlando,Perkins would be the main guy in such a trade, he's not there anymore.
Otherwise Bulls could offer alot more than us and they have bobcats pick in the same year but it's worse than ours.

We have the right of refusal, so we can match any deal another team offers, if we extend him a 1 year QO of 6 million.

We can also sign him to an extension before that potentially. So there is the potential no one will offer him a big deal because they feel the C's would match (ala BBD) and then the C's get him to a one year deal. (or just the QO) Or another team could sign him to a sheet that the C's would have 7 days to match.....

I don't think it's a guarantee at all. If anything, Green's versatility and ability to play the 4 spot and the fact we can fall back on the QO to force Green to play for us for 5 million or so next year and still have the full capspace (just Pierce and Rondo) for 2012 if he doesn't like the RFA offers he receives means we have more versatility regarding Davis. With a new CBA and Pierce/Rondo guaranteed, I don't think we can sign anyone else past next year and have a shot at a major FA in 2012.

I would almost bet he gets a sign and trade someday.  He is our best bench guy but he gets blocked a lot and doesn't do as well when we starts.

Not a lock but I do think it is more likely now. BBD's importance to the C's has risen.

I also think it's very likely Jeff Green is retained and by the time those two guys are signed, if that happens, the C's 2012 cap flexibility is going to be lessened significantly ... which will make it less likely that they are able to sign a max contract player.

Although, the contracts, hopefully, should be movable enough to keep that 2012 option alive ... but I think it's going to become less clear, straight forward, than it was before.

i hope DA can sell Green on the vision that if he takes the QO next year, it will mean better things for him (winning-wise and money-wise) in the years to come. and besides, as i understand it, if Green takes the QO, then he becomes an UFA when his contract expires, meaning the C's cant just simply match what other teams offer.
